​​​​​​​Great opportunity for a Drawing Office / CAD Team Manager to lead and grow a small team of CAD engineers, as well as performing CAD engineering tasks. Your challenge will be to ensure the Drawing Office meet the changing needs of the growing Telent business. Your base location will be Warwick (1-2 days a month expected) but with our 'agile working' policy, the successful candidate can predominantly work from home.

The role:

Reporting to the Engineering Manager - Station Comm, you will be responsible for leading a small team (currently 4, expected to grow to 8) of CAD engineers as well as perform CAD engineering tasks. This will include producing schematics, building layouts, elevations, and mechanical drawings etc, predominantly for rail communication projects.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Line management responsibilities for the team including performance reviews and driving individual development
  • Manage incoming and outgoing work streams
  • Keeping abreast of the latest CAD technology both hardware and software
  • Liaising with clients on CAD elements and ensuring clients CAD standards are met
  • Ordering CAD materials and licenses
  • Ensuring any Building Information Modelling (BIM) requirements are met and develop Telent's BIM capabilities
  • Understand Projectwise and produce outputs
  • Manage and monitor resource levels, including producing resource schedules for inclusion into bids
  • Be the named contact and administrator for Software used such as Bentley, Autodesk, Axiom, OnShape etc
  • Further develop 3D scanning technology and data processing and usage
  • 2D and 3D drawings in a variety of CAD packages

Skills, experience & qualifications required:

  • Strong people management and leadership skills, preferably with change management experience
  • Extensive experience working in a CAD environment to CAD standards
  • Proficient in the use of Bentley MicroStation (AutoCad, Solid works or similar also useful)
  • Ability to run and control a CAD department effectively
  • Preferably experience of Building Information Modelling (BIM)
  • Ideally experience of working within telecommunications, rail, or other safety critical industries
  • Ability to bring fresh ideas to the team and department
  • Ability to grow team in numbers, technology and efficiencies
  • Flexible to meet the peaks resulting from unexpected workloads
  • Ability to build trust and relationships with team, colleagues and customers
