Our client have an exciting opportunity available for a Chair of Audit & Risk Committee to join their team based in Barnsley. You will join them on a part time, permanent basis.

The company is a social housing company that manages over 18,000 homes on behalf of Barnsley Council, with a strong community focus across a borough that has a unique blend or rural, town centre and urban housing.

The Chair of Audit & Risk Committee role:This is a great opportunity for an individual who is looking for their first Chair role as they will be given the opportunity to spend six months shadowing and being mentored by the current Chair of Audit and Risk Committee, before officially taking over the role (half salary until changeover).

The Board are committed to ensuring they are truly representative of the communities they serve. This ensures that the company have board members with different backgrounds, perspectives and experiences, which brings diversity of thought to every level of the company.

The role will be a hybrid of virtual and face-to-face meetings and the successful candidate will engage with staff, tenants and communities to enable enriched oversight and scrutiny. If you live outside of Barnsley, reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.

As the Chair of Audit & Risk Committee you will:

Help collectively achieve the companys ambitions for the future to provide thriving, vibrant and diverse communities for residents
Listen to and hear their customers
Ensure thier customers feel safe in their home
The ideal Chair of Audit & Risk Committee will need:

Significant and qualified experience of accounting at a senior level
Ability to build excellent relationships across the organisation
A deep understanding of good governance, regulation, finance and risk
Experience of being part of or working with a nonexecutive Board ensuring high performance
Ability to make good decisions
Knowledge of the housing sector is not essential, but the company are interested in your ability to quickly understand thier context so that you can support the Board and Executives ongoing transformation of thier performance and thereby contribute to the quality of service they offer to their tenants.
