Job description

Chief Operating Officer

Salary: £70,000 - £80,000 to be determined dependent on experience and expertise

Location: North Yorkshire

Areté Learning Trust was established in 2015 when Stokesley School converted to academy status. Since then it has been joined by Richmond School and Northallerton School, all schools teaching 11 to 17 year olds and having a total student population of c 3,500. The Trust prides itself on the quality of education given to its pupils and in ensuring that they "be the best they can be". During the last 5 years the Trust has successfully obtained c £15 million in Government funds to enhance its estate most notable being the receipt of £9 million to relocate and refurbish Northallerton School.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be responsible for the provision of all non-educational services within the Trust including:

Finance and Legal, including GDPR; Estates; IT; HR; Catering and external contractors

Candidates will be expected, as part of the senior management team, to play a key part in the strategic development of the Trust whilst ensuring that Value for Money is obtained in the provision of support services. To this end, individuals must be used to working in a continuous performance improvement mode where cost reduction/containment are a constant challenge.

Candidates must be educated to degree level and have a recognized accountancy qualification. They must be commercially astute and be accustomed to managing in a persuasive, consultative manner, taking people with them by the strength of their argument. They must be strong leaders and effective risk assessors who are accustomed to working in a highly regulated environment. Experience of working in the Education Sector, whilst advantageous, is not essential.
