Job description

Sayjo Recruitment Ltd are acting on behalf of a client to source a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, to join their business. This is a staff position, working closely with the Technical Manager and co-ordinating a further 2 design engineers and a contractor to meet deadlines and ensure good process and practice.

Opportunity for a motivated, hard-working individual to join a growing, team in a small machine building business which currently employs 20 people.

Role

• Lead mechanical Design Engineer - Full Time. Permanent.

Location

• Office Based, within 5 minutes of M1 Junc. 40 or M62 Junc. 28.

Salary

• £37,000 - £42,000 depending on skills and experience

About the applicant

• You will be a seasoned mechanical engineer and have a past history of mechanical design and managing multi-facetted multi-national projects to deadlines.

• Motivated, both a leader and team-player you will work with our technical manager, design team and production crew to ensure best design and build practice and process are managed and maintained in a fast-moving liquid filling machinery manufacturer.

• In addition, you will be au fait with and can demonstrate experience of lean build and design to function with a good eye for detail, cost reduction and efficiency gains.

Experience / Education / Skills

• You will be a highly motivated and experienced machinery design and project management professional.

• At least 5 years of bespoke machinery design and project management experience. Ideally Packaging Machinery - liquid filling lines a bonus.

• Demonstrable evidence of small team management.

• Proficient in mechanical design from ground upwards - 3D Design - using SolidWorks

• Demonstrable mechanical engineering knowledge of fits and functions, components, mechanical dynamics.

• Experience of Bill of Material (BOM) creation and management.

• Analytical, with a commercial awareness with manufacturing budgets to bring projects in at cost.

• Ability to meet project deadlines with an adaptable and flexible approach to meeting a specified deadline

• Ability to work as part of a team but interfacing with production and purchase functions

• Intermediate knowledge of MS Excel

• Clear understanding of engineering protocols such as change management, revision control etc.

• Understanding of British and European mechanical design standards.

• Organised but flexible approach - desire to deliver the best solutions, on time with best practice.

• Able to set and monitor targets with an experience of continuous improvement.

• Pneumatic circuit design / hydraulics and electrical design knowledge would be a bonus

• 22.5 days holiday increasing to 25 after 5 years' service + Stats

• Working hours - 40 per week

Monday-Thursday 08.00 - 17.00 (0.5hr lunch) Friday 08.00 - 14.30 (0.5hr lunch)
