Further Information:
A Personal Assistant is required to work with a lively, happy 15 year old girl with a learning disability and epilepsy, but presently this is well controlled. She is non-verbal, but has some knowledge of Makaton and has usually able to make it clear what she wants.
The PA would be required to take the girl to the park, cinema, for ice cream and visits to places of interest, such as Honeysuckle farm. She also enjoys drawing and colouring and is usually quite happy if someone is engaging with her and showing an interest in what she is doing.
Some personal care is required and experience of working with young people with communication difficulties would also be a distinct advantage
Applicants should also have a strongly developed sense of social justice in supporting the social inclusion of disabled people in their local community. In addition they should be honest, reliable, and good at communicating, tolerant and non-judgemental and able to build good relationships based on trust and respect.
