Job description
Job Title: Technical Manager
Location: Leeds - Sherburn In Elmet
Salary: up to £60,000 per annum
Job Purpose:
Responsible for the Technical & Hygiene operation and systems for the site, maintaining technical standards, in line with legislation and customer requirements. Ensuring the members of the technical team are also effectively implementing and managing in line with legislative and customer operating standards.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, working alongside factory colleagues and key disciplines i.e., Planning, Production, NPD, Health and Safety, Human Resources, and Hygiene Departments, including the following external relationships- All customers, Suppliers and industry bodies.
You will be expected to demonstrate sound communication and organisational skills to achieve the planned Technical levels.
Main duties include (but not limited to):
Responsible for product quality, safety, and legality
Accountable for the technical and quality assurance function of the site meeting company, legislative, customer and 3rd party accreditation body standards
Ensuring that the Technical Team is adequately trained and that any further training needs are identified
Liaison with suppliers and customers
Ensuring that the company's quality systems are fully compliant with current standards and customer requirements
Ensuring that any customers KPIs are supplied in an accurate and timely fashion
Maintenance of the HACCP Food Safety Plan
Leadership of the HACCP Food Safety Team
Ensures that technical resource is available for involvement in trials associated with Technical, NPD, Engineering, Manufacturing, Packaging, Hygiene, etc.
Advising other members of the Senior Management Team about quality, food safety and legislative requirements
Develop expertise across the site, fully understanding the processes and constraints, to continuously improve food safety, legality, and quality compliance across the site, in conjunction with other members of the operations team
Responsible for retrieving data, compiling, and presenting ad hoc technical reviews to site and company senior management
Management of quarterly site and monthly retailer KPI reports
The provision of suitable technical resource to lead site technical audits and visits

Requirements and person specification:
Qualifications:
Group and site induction
Level 4 food safety (advanced)
Level 4 in H&S (Advanced. Either IOSH Managing Safety
Food-related BSC Qualification
Advanced HACCP
Experience / Knowledge:
Relevant food manufacturing experience in a similar role (minimum 7 years).
All relevant risk assessments and safe working procedures are reviewed and to current methods.
Hazards and near miss reporting training.
Accident investigation training
Relevant food manufacturing experience in a similar role (minimum 7 years).
Recognised PC skills (Microsoft Office Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
Strong Management Skills
Group and site induction
Understanding of relevant risk assessments and safe working procedures.
Understanding and application of hazard identification and near miss reporting.
Auditing Skills
