Job description

Our major client is looking to recruit a BMS Technician on a permanent basis to their expanding team.

BMS Technician - JOB SUMMARY/ PURPOSE:
To provide specialist technical advice and engineering support across a wide range of business functions including supporting, updating, replacing and implementing new or enhanced building energy management systems and applications. To provide technical solutions and support for Estates & Facilities specific, specialised embedded systems including but not limited to access control, building energy management and large-scale activity systems through mobile devices. The role of the BMS Technician is to support the wider operational team in close co-operation with other Estates staff at all levels in the maintenance of the buildings and grounds.

The post has two main areas of work. Building Management Systems management, and an element of Energy Management. The major area will be Building Management Systems (BMS) where the post holder will be expected to ensure that the BMS is maintained in accordance with the department's Building Management Systems policies.

BMS Technician - KEY DUTIES:
* To have prime responsibility under the supervision of the Assistant Head of Estates Operations & Compliance for maintaining, reviewing, developing and implementing systems on the companies BMS Systems.
* To co-ordinate the Operational BMS Groups and be an active member of the Energy Reduction Programme Board and Electrical Safety Group. * To provide information necessary to decide and implement Building Management policies and ensure that maintenance requirements are reflected in BMS briefings for all development projects.
* Support the design and specification of production control equipment for all schemes relating to BMS.
* Formulating a standardised control strategy to interface with various types of plant and equipment that require BMS control. Liaising with operational managers to convert their high level non-technical requirements into detailed technical specifications for the delivery of systems to their requirements either by adapting configurations locally, or by instructing change to control programming from the supplier.
* The post holder will be ultimately responsible for the day to day operation of the BMS system.
* Analysing system data to identify areas of problem or potential improvement for discussion with operational managers, being sure to communicate highly technical aspects in a non-technical manner that the operational managers can understand.
* Maintaining control devices, re-imaging, repairing and trouble-shooting issues to ensure plant is kept operational as fully as possible
* Advising on changes to control device configurations, both from the point of view of delivering a highly secure service as well as ensuring best usage of the investment made.
* Analysing the opportunities and benefits possible from the introduction of a new module for a system, communicating that to operational managers in a non-technical manner, and carrying out the implementation to full adoption.
* Implementation, roll out and primary lead for the ongoing maintenance of the existing and new BMS systems across Estates & Facilities.
* Assist with the maintenance of a range of additional control systems across Estates & Facilities e.g. access control.
* Installation, repair and maintenance of high value BMS equipment.

BMS Technician - Person Specification:
* Relevant technical qualification; C&G/BTEC/NVQ/HNC/HND/ Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent BMS qualification.
* Commercial experience in a BMS technician role or similar position.
* BMS experience to include, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of BMS systems, configuration and design strategy for new systems.
* Knowledge and experience of Schneider BMS Systems
