Job description

Position/Title: IT Business Analyst

Location: 100% Remote (anywhere in the US)

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for providing business analytical support by documenting business requirements for the development of new business systems and enhancements to existing systems. Contribute to solving problems by becoming expert in the business workflows and use of applications as well as existing system functionality. Seek positive outcomes by working closely with technology teams, operations, IT department, vendors, other departments and business resources to identify and implement solutions that support the business unit goals. Participate in large complex cross functional projects at a very detailed level while maintaining alignment with organizational goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Gather and document quality user requirements and create supporting documentation per established procedures (i.e. requirements, BRD)
  • Document and analyze AS IS and TO BE business processes ensuring that underlying issues and concerns are addressed with project deliverables
  • Assist in the execution of a project by leading requirement review meetings with IT and business partners to obtain sign-off
  • Drive solutions by developing and maintaining a comprehensive knowledge of systems used by business partners to make recommendations for solutions that focus on business need, driving efficiency and streamlining processes
  • Work with business and the development team to review and approve solutions/design ensuring transparency across the teams
  • Work with test lead to define testing strategy and identify use cases
  • Lead or Participate in monitoring and approval of test results
  • Lead User Acceptance Testing with business representatives when needed
  • Work with training department to develop training strategy; define training requirements
  • Coordinate roll out activities with business which include coordinating pilot (if applicable) and preparing release notes, user guides and training material for the end users
  • Complete production acceptance of change which includes end user participation and validation of successful implementation
  • Monitor or Lead post production support by performing knowledge transfer to Support team to ensure they are able to investigate and resolve issues; provide guidance and/or help in investigating and resolving issues
  • Post implementation review and contribute to identification of lessons learned
  • Participate in and/or lead project meetings as needed; publish meeting minutes
  • Manage some or all aspects of projects including creation of project timeline with individual tasks, quantify and track project benefits and identify impacts across the organization
  • Provide project updates considering current vs. planned status including identification of issues and risks and mitigation approach
  • Prepare formal presentations, written reports and general project documents as deemed appropriate including workflows and new process documentation
  • Plan and organize assignments to achieve objectives in a timely manner in accordance with applicable quality standards
  • Inform Management of any facts, events or information that may impact the success of a project or deliverable
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior members of the team

Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor's Degree or in-lieu of degree, equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a technology environment
  • 3+ years of experience in the role of a business analyst participating in a wide range of projects
  • Understands the Software Development Lifecycle including Waterfall and Agile methodologies
  • Ability to speak to and present information to groups of people with ease; meeting facilitation
  • Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines
  • Possess knowledge of project execution and project leadership
  • Possess ability to problem solve, make decisions and recommendations to improve efficiencies and streamline processes
  • Possess effective verbal, written and face-to-face communication skills
  • Possess strong attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Self-motivated and ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint,)
  • Experience working with outsourced staff both US and Internationally

Desired Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in documenting business requirements and implementing a wide variety of projects
  • 1+ years of experience in the Property/Casualty insurance industry and related business experience
  • Business analyst certification
  • Project management certification
  • Maintain and continue to seek new information and learning opportunities related to the position
  • Experienced working with Microsoft TFS, Quickbase and Sharepoint applications
  • SQL Experience
