The ideal candidate will work well independently but is also a leader invested in the growth of the team and company. This position will have ample opportunity for career advancement and will report to the CEO. In this role you will use genetic engineering, systems biology, Omics and HTP methodology, and computational modeling to design edible cell lines. You will identify genes and proteins that drive desired cellular phenotypes and use genetic engineering and protein design strategies to optimize cell line performance.
Principle Responsibilities:
- Generate custom mammalian cell lines using CRISPR/Cas multiplex gene editing and other genetic engineering techniques
- Protein design using computational modeling methods
- Develop strategies to optimize cellular phenotypes for both muscle and fat lines
- Contribute to foundational IP through ideation, documentation, and experimental enablement of IP filings
- Mammalian / microbial cell culture with flexibility to come in on weekends if necessary
- Develop a rapid cycle of experimental assay design, execution, and subsequent iteration DoE approach to facilitate robust cell line development
- Use molecular biology techniques and cloning workflows to develop cell lines
- Design proteins with improved efficiencies or constitutive activation
- Establish and maintain DNA libraries Utilize high throughput screening methods
- Apply machine learning / deep learning approaches to computational modeling
- Establish and manage cell banks Use LIMS system to record experimental data
- Present experimental summaries, conclusions, and future plans to senior leadership and team members
- Contribute intellectually to research strategy and company IP
Requirements/Qualifications:
- PhD in biology, molecular biology, bioengineering or equivalent discipline, industry experience preferred but not necessary
- Knowledge of the functionality and applications of different Cas enzymes
- Experience culturing a variety of mammalian cell types.
- Experience with skeletal muscle, fat cell, and iPSC cell culture a plus
- Deep understanding of cell biology topics including the cell cycle, proliferation, differentiation, and regulation of gene and protein expression
