A Property and Casualty Personal Insurance team member responsible for processing of core functions through the underwriting lifecycle. This role underwrites personal lines Property & Casualty products under general supervision, issuing quotes and policies while ensuring standards and compliance guidelines are met. Candidate will be the primary point of contact for all renewal business throughout the unit, in addition to endorsement referrals and inspection disputes. In this highly visible and critical role you will interact daily with individuals from other departments and brokers.
About the role
What you need to know:
- Responsible for underwriting a book consisting of large accounts and complex risks for partner brokers.
- Rapidly evaluates, prioritizes, and selects submissions to ensure completeness and rate readiness, evaluate risks and controls, and ensure compatibility with risk appetite.
- Identify risk exposures, special or common hazards, claims experience and appropriate controls. Analyze claims and quantifying losses.
- Adhere to guidelines and underwriting discipline to minimize exposure and appropriately price risks. Use sophisticated underwriting and producer management tools to meet profitability goals.
- Offer coverage, terms and conditions which generate a profit for the Company while meeting the needs of the customer.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external business partners.
- Meet renewal retention goals through strong negotiation and communication skills which may involve onsite meetings with brokers, clients, or centers of influence.
- Identify and target new business and cross sell opportunities by building relationships with producers and account managers.
- Make independent sales calls to build strong relationships and grow the book of business. Communicate risk appetite and value proposition.
- Capture market intelligence and broker feedback on accounts to drive account and portfolio strategies.
- Document underwriting files accordingly per authority statements and guidelines.
- Assist in annual audits for specific product lines.
- Review, evaluate, and recommend modifications to underwriting guidelines and workflows.
- Engage in various underwriting and marketing projects to improve overall company results.
What we're looking for:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.
- One to three years of experience with Personal Lines Property & Casualty Insurance underwriting or relevant professional experience.
- Strong knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical reasoning (quantitative and qualitative) that can be applied in a problem-solving scenario.
- Strong communication, influencing, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently as to "own" their book of business while handling multiple tasks in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work in dynamic, rapidly changing environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues to quickly deliver solutions.
- Ability to facilitate cross-function collaboration, especially regarding technical aspects; Takes initiative on projects and assignments, seeks alternate solutions when necessary.
- Detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to self-direct, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
- Positive, energetic, self-motivated, and possesses strong interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications including Excel and Word.
