Position Summary

Responsible for the organization, development and direction of section operations in accordance with department and LBMMC goals. Ensure that fiscal and human resources are managed to provide excellent service to the section's users and ensure that section fulfills its role in accomplishing departmental and LBMMC objectives by integrating these objectives into the daily operations of the section.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Schedule, coordinate and monitor the Section's day-to-day operational functions, which in addition to patient testing, can include Proficiency Testing, Quality Control, and Quality Assurance testing and follow-up.
  • Perform competency assessments and required evaluations of all staff in section. Evaluations are performed on schedule. Recruit, train and retain staff.
  • Interact with all MHS / MHL customers, which include physicians, office staff, technical staff and nurses. Represent section and Pathology Department at appropriate meetings inside and outside of the department.
  • Interact with LBMMC staff at all levels, providing problem resolution and timely follow up. Acts professionally at all times. Is thorough and focused on quality patient care.
  • Establish and maintain section policies and procedures in cooperation with section Medical Director. Procedures to include technical protocols, computer system usage, supply monitoring and ordering practices, and staffing phlebotomy services.
Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:
  • At least 4 years of experience with high complexity testing with high expertise in Microbiology, Virology, TB Mycology, Parasitology, and Bacteriology.
  • In depth knowledge of laboratory activities as they impact laboratory services.
  • Knowledge, where indicated, of billing procedure, coding, and regulatory requirements.
  • Positive guest relation skills are critical to the position.
  • Ability to interact with laboratory personnel who have high degrees of technical expertise in specialized areas.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills preferred with licensed, certified, and other workforce staff.

Education/Licensure/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology science.
  • ASCP Certification preferred.
  • Current California State licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist required for Supervisor Level A.
