Job description

The Department of Translational Genomics at the Keck School of Medicine at USC is seeking an outstanding scientist to join the faculty on the tenure track as a full-time Associate Professor of Translational Genomics. The Department of Translational Genomics aims to bring to bear novel and innovative technologies and molecular insights to improve clinical management and patient outcomes.

The selected candidate would build and maintain an independently funded and internationally recognized basic translational research laboratory within the department. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of achievement in translational or basic research.

  • Faculty applicants must have earned a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree with an evidenced record of appropriate research training and skills in developing original research.Tenure consideration will be based upon the candidate's experience evidenced by current scholarship, teaching, and service status.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience and training in genome science, biomedical informatics, and translational studies. This includes a focus on genetics of human disease, functional genomics, and cell biology.
  • The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated history of obtaining extramural funding and the ability to teach graduate-level courses related to biotechnology and/or bioinformatics
  • The successful candidate is expected to build a dynamic and highly productive research group focused on basic or translational studies
  • The selected candidate is also expected to develop strong collaborative relationships with clinicians and investigators within the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.Thus, a track record of building and maintaining strong translational collaborations will also be considered.

This faculty position will be provided resource support for salary and laboratory startup operations, which include personnel, office space, and laboratory space. Resource allocation will be based upon the applicants' evidenced qualifications and level of experience. The initial appointment is for five years with the expectation that the candidate will have built and maintained an outstanding, competitive research program, which is independently funded.
