Our initial area of focus is on developing hardware and software technologies that bring greater visibility and understanding of what's happening under the water for the fast growing Blue Food sector. Learn more about Project Tidal by visiting our Google X project page: THE ROLE:Tidal is looking for a passionate Mechanical Engineer to join our team for a part time or full time internship. In this position you will work cross functionally to prepare the Tidal hardware for production and support hardware investigations for future products. This role will require someone who is a self starter and can take ownership of a problem. At Tidal you will become an expert in your domain area and own all aspects of a project, from defining the requirements to helping to deploy your prototypes to the field. WHAT YOU'LL BE WORKING ON: Identify requirements for new projects and brainstorm multiple concepts Build and test prototypes to iterate on your designs Manage vendors to prepare your designs for medium to high volume manufacturing Support prototype builds at the contract manufacture Collaborate with manufacturing to create fixtures, work instructions, and resolve quality issues Provide engineering support to Operations for field issues and failure analysis Develop tests for field experiments and collaborate with team members to execute them Travel to vendor facilities as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Enrolled in a Bachelors or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field Experience in CAD tools such as Solidworks, or equivalent Strong communication skills, in particular cross functionally Experience designing and building parts outside of the classroom Familiarity with complex projects involving mechanical, electrical, and software design Strong mechanical engineering fundamentalsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Passion for the ocean demonstrated through engineering or personal projects (underwater robotics, ocean sensors, ocean related research or hobbies, etc)
