In this vital role you will be a key part of Amgen's the Compensation group and passionate about ensuring company leadership is fairly incented for the work they have been selected to perform. You will work closely with Amgen HR and functional leadership to bring your deep understanding and current knowledge of executive compensation to our team.
Amgen is seeking a Director of Executive Compensation with responsibilities for overseeing the design, implementation, and administration of executive compensation programs in support of senior executives and the Compensation and Management Development Committee of the Board of Directors. This role reports to the Vice President Global Total Rewards. The role will focus on executive level positions on a global scale, including: executive pay, annual incentive plan design, long-term equity compensation programs, proxy reporting, external trends analysis and regulatory disclosure and compliance.
ResponsibilitiesThis individual will lead the strategy for stock plan design, analysis, evaluation of standard methodologies, and monitoring the development of applicable laws and regulations to ensure compliance. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Annual incentive plan design
- Equity plan design, including plan participation, usage, and modeling of performance unit scenarios
- Competitive analyses across the broad spectrum of executive compensation programs and practices
- Partner with Legal, Finance and Tax to ensure ongoing compliance with internal and external reporting
- Partner internally to develop reporting systems and internal review processes and audits
- Manage vendor relationships
- Closely partner with those managing the day-to-day administration of stock plans
- Develop employee communication and education programs
- Partner on compliance, accounting, and tax issues for all locations globally
- Prepare materials for presentation to the Compensation and Management Development Committee of the Board of Directors; attend meetings
- Provide input for preparation of the Compensation Discussion and Analysis section of the annual proxy filing
- Provide support in the preparation of executive compensation analysis and reporting

We are all different, yet we all make unique contributions to serving patients. The Executive Compensation professional we seek is deep in subject matter and driven to stay current in this area while having the following qualifications.
Basic QualificationsBachelors degree & 9 years of Executive Compensation experience,
OrMasters degree & 7 years of Executive Compensation experience,
OrDoctorate degree & 4 years of Executive Compensation experience
Additional QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skill, ability or other characteristic:
- Previous experience in executive compensation, including responsibility for preparing materials for the Compensation Committee of the Board
- 10+ years professional work experience in Human Resources and/or Finance, 5 years of stock plan administration experience
- Knowledge of stock plan administration to include compliance with applicable GAAP, FAS123R, SEC, IRC, and DOL regulations
- Knowledge of long-term incentive programs to include design and administration
- Knowledge of stock plan design and grant practice implications for countries around the globe
- Detail oriented with ability to develop accurate work deliverables with a professional finish
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels in the organization
- Ability to influence, gain acceptance of ideas, and negotiate solutions without damage to relationship
- Discretion and sensitivity in the handling of confidential information
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, changing, and sometimes ambiguous environment
- Self-directed with critical thinking ability
- Outstanding data analysis skills and demonstrated ability to draw meaningful conclusions and action plan on the basis of quantitative data, employee survey data, competitive data and anecdotal observations
- Demonstrated ability to craft programs that are effective in motivating results and optimizing performance
- Bachelors degree or equivalent in Finance, Business or Human Resources (Masters preferred)
- High degree of emotional intelligence, flexibility, self motivation and strong analytical skills
- Stellar oral and written communication skills with the ability to create and deliver presentation material
