VP - Assistant Controller
SUMMARY
The Assistant Controller is a key member of the Finance team who assumes an important role in the overall management of the Company's accounting functions. The Assistant Controller assists the Corporate Controller in implementing, managing, and controlling the financial accounting activities of the Bank and its holding Company. The focus of the Assistant Controller includes regulatory compliance and practices as well as ensuring continuous improvement in financial controls and operating efficiencies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Complies with, and stays abreast of, all policies and procedures, federal and state laws applicable to the job.
Reviews all documents and contracts and processes in order to develop and improve internal controls.
General accounting management and oversight, which includes maintaining the Company's financial records and reports in accordance with GAAP and company policies and procedures. This also includes reviewing and analyzing general ledger accounts to ensure accurate reporting of the financial activity of the Company, as well as supporting monthly and quarterly general ledger closing procedures.
Responsible for ensuring effective operation of controls over accounting, the general ledger and financial reporting.
Compiles, analyzes and/or review financial information supporting the monthly preparation of various management reports, in an accurate and timely manner.
Assists with the compilation of information used for various audits.
Supports general ledger conversions and supports a process of continual systems and process enhancements to deliver efficiencies and effective controls.
Assists Corporate Controller with mergers & acquisitions and related purchase accounting and leads system integration.
Assures conformity with professional accounting standards and best practices in accordance with GAAP.
Provide, present, and promote the Citizens Experience to all external and internal customers.
Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has supervisory responsibilities. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in accounting or finance from four-year College or university; and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a senior financial leadership position.
A graduate degree is a plus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations and interpret and draw bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
COMPUTER & SOFTWARE SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience with Accounting Systems.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
A Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.) License is a plus.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
The incumbent must have previous experience managing accounting functions and groups.
Strong understanding of GAAP and financial controls (Sarbanes Oxley Regulations)
