Job description

Summary:

Under the general direction of the Global Procurement Manager, the Mechanical Buyer I, is knowledgeable in most aspects of generalized purchasing and may be knowledgeable in fabricated mechanical components, fasteners and assemblies. Coordinates purchasing activities with sales, manufacturing and engineering departments to acquire raw material, finished goods inventory, MRO and Capital equipment and/or outside services, both direct and indirect, in a cost effective and timely manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to) :

  • Expedite and follow-up on past due purchase orders
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers
  • Ensure that products and services procured meet established standards
  • Work with suppliers to optimize schedules of incoming shipments
  • Perform cost analysis and inventory planning for various commodities
  • Assists in recommending new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are inadequate
  • Evaluate existing processes, policies and procedures and recommend areas for improvement
  • Some negotiation of various aspects of business needs and objectives may be required
  • Interface with mechanical suppliers including RFQ, PO processing, expediting, tracking delivery and quality performance
  • Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice by management
Job Requirements:
Skills/Knowledge Required:
  • Proven buyer knowledge of mechanical items and/or fabricated metals
  • Have a basic level of understanding engineering drawings and interpreting various methods of manufacturing, various manufacturing standards and various attributes such as material, finish, secondary operation(s), etc. is critical to job function
  • Basic understanding of industry commodities and market trends with respect to raw material, manufacturing locales and strategic sources.
  • Knowledge of technical requirements to purchase machine-fabricated parts and assemblies
  • Use knowledge of market conditions to negotiate best price while meeting all other specifications
  • Basic understanding of engineering drawings and flow charts required
  • Strong customer service and communication (written/verbal) and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and perform under pressure
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with various internal and external teams is paramount to the success of the department as well as the organization
  • High level of organization in an often fast-paced, volatile environment required.
  • High attention to detail and quality, self-motivated with ability to learn quickly and work independently
  • Ability to multi task in a fast paced work environment
  • Experience with various MRP and ERP systems a plus
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Adobe)
Experience/Education Required:
  • Business, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or other related field with a minimum of 1 year directly related experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in procurement/supply chain management in a manufacturing/operations environment is preferred
  • Mechanical background and/or experience in electronic contract manufacturing procurement is desired
  • Technical understanding of PENCOM's products and supply base highly desired
