Description

The Microbiologist is responsible for the execution of multiple projects dealing with microbiology, water quality, and process control.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. A microbiologist will be responsible for the following tasks (tasks may include, but are not limited to the following):

  • Monitor, scheduled activities, and operation of high volume microbiology laboratory
  • Develop and implement microbiological testing such as Bacterial ID, Certificate of the population of the label claim and new types of biological testing as necessary
  • Assure conformance with FDA, GMP Protocols, and all other regulatory documents
  • Notify the superiors of any non-compliance issues and production problem
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique, organism identification, plating and streaking of nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, and water samples
  • Must maintain accurate records and documentation of all test results
  • React immediately to out-of-compliance specification and assist in conducting failure investigation
  • Write protocols and reports
  • Monitor equipment performance and calibration schedules
  • Create Lab operation procedures and follow the guidelines from regulatory agencies
  • Must be willing to work late or during weekends, if needed.
  • Must have the ability to be flexible and proactive
  • Must be able to practice good prioritization; maximize efficiency; and have good organizational skills.
  • Should have the ability to work at a fast pace and handle multiple tasks, work with interruptions, prioritize workload, and understand and implement written and verbal instructions.
  • Other duties, assignments and tasks as assigned


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

BS in Microbiology or similar discipline

In-depth, knowledge of microbiology scientific concepts, theory, research procedures, and analytical techniques.

5 years of experience performing microbial analysis in a regulated industry (i.e. Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, Biopharmaceutical, and/or Nutraceutical)

2 years of experience conducting validation (instrument, method, cleaning, process, etc.). Must be able to define, write, and execute validation protocols and reports

Experience working in manufacturing and/or laboratory environment.

Have a good knowledge and understanding of quality in the manufacturing environment, as well as laboratory controls and safety

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
