Job description

Join Cardno's Science and Environment group and specifically our Cultural Resources Team in California and Nevada. We are seeking innovative and motivated team members to help grow our cultural resources program that currently supports a variety of clients and projects including statewide utility compliance programs, hydroelectric relicensing studies, and implementation of cultural resource management plans. Cardno is seeking numerous archaeological staff reporting to either our Sacramento, Reno, Bishop or Glendale Offices. Ideal locations of candidates would be in the central valley/ central California foothills, northern California and Southern California regions to support critical fieldwork and projects in these areas.

Job Description:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Directly support archaeological field directors and project managers by assisting with desktop reviews, pre-field planning, cultural surveys, monitoring and reporting. Qualified applicants should exhibit good field skills, have the ability to work independently and as part of a crew. The position will also require support with desktop reviews and coordination with construction planning. In addition to technical field skills, key qualities we are looking for are:

  • flexibility

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Anthropology or closely related field (e.g., anthropology/archeology) plus 0-3 years of experience
  • Must have completed archaeological field school; or demonstratable equivalent training
  • Demonstrated knowledge of California Department Parks and Recreation (DPR) site forms
  • Proficient in Trimble sub-meter GPS unit or equivalent and associated software
  • Experience with both small and large archaeological crews
  • Ability to complete physically demanding tasks in remote areas and/or hot and dry climates, including walking, hiking, carrying loads up to 50 pounds, and excavation
  • Moderate out-of-town travel
  • Must have demonstrable California experience
  • Must have at least three professional or academic references

Desired Qualifications:
  • Prefer specialization in California and or Great Basin Archaeology
  • familiarity with field applications like Survey123, Collector, and Fulcrum.
  • Prefer experience working with Native American Tribes
  • Prefer specialization in Section 106 compliance on federal lands and California utility sector
  • Located in central valley/ California foothills, northern California or Southern California
