Job description
Cardno is seeking a motivated and dynamic Architectural Historian to support our Cultural Resources Team in our Northern California Sacramento Office. The qualified candidate will work in close coordination with our diversified team and in close coordination with Senior Project Management in a range of cultural resources documentation projects across California.
Job Description:
Responsibilities include conducting background research, conducting built environment fieldwork, developing contextual analysis, making determinations of eligibility under the criteria of the NRHP and CRHR, and report preparation, as well as coordinating with other Cardno staff to ensure the quality of data, fieldwork, and documentation. Projects will vary in size, scope, and complexity and will be conducted in close coordination and under the supervision of senior staff.
Qualifications include an M.A. or M.S. in historic preservation or public history or related field or sufficient experience to meet Secretary of Interior Standards and Guidelines for Professional Qualifications for Architectural History or related field. Applicants must have some experience with Section 106, NEPA, CEQA, and other cultural resource regulations. Technical experience operating a GPS receiver and managing GIS data a plus but not required.
Qualified applicants should exhibit good leadership and judgement qualities, strong technical skills, good communication skills, and feel comfortable making technical decisions in the field. The preferred candidate also should demonstrate a desire for growth and new skill development.
Minimum Qualifications:
> Master's degree in Historic Preservation, Public History, or closely related field preferred, Bachelor's degree plus substantial experience may be considered for highly qualified applicants.
> 4 or more years professional experience preferred
> Knowledge and experience working with Section 106 of National Historic Preservation Act and CEQA
> Experience writing and producing technical reports; strong writing skills
> Fluency using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as Adobe Acrobat
> Working knowledge of GIS
> Experience with a Trimble and associated software and submeter GPS
> Ability to complete physically demanding tasks in remote areas and/or hot and dry climates, including walking, hiking, and field navigating
> Regular out-of-town travel
