Job description

The Chief Financial Officer will lead, organize, structure the company through its ongoing organization. The Chief Financial Officer is the chief planning and accounting officer of the company. As such, the CFO will direct the financial and economic affairs of the organization and will be responsible for the company's financial plans and policies, its accounting practices, review and the implementation of controls as needed, and the management of external business relationships (banking facilities, insurance providers, and tax and audit firms). The CFO will lead the long-term strategic planning with the Executive Management Team. He/She will be responsible for preparing the annual budget in conjunction with "the team", preparing and generating the financial accounting report along with forecasts on a monthly and quarterly basis to the Management Team and Board of Directors. The CFO will be responsible for evaluating and making necessary improvements in compliance especially data security and privacy. The position will also be responsible for managing IT (outsourced) and many of the legal concerns with contracts and contract negotiations. Additionally, the CFO will incorporate the cultural values of our client with open communication and respect.


The position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will be regarded as a business partner in aligning the goals towards organization and growth for the organization. The position will work as closely with the executive team in providing an atmosphere of open listening and discussion around strategy. The CFO will manage a small accounting team including payroll, outsourced IT and HR.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, plan, organize, evaluate, and lead the organization's finance, accounting, data security and privacy, legal, insurance, and HR functions meeting alignment with the goals of the Chief Executive Officer and Management Team
  • Facilitate the Management Team's strategic planning process by providing financial tools in which to plan, track and analyze the effective execution of the said plan
  • Provide the CEO and the Management Team timely and accurate financial and operational reports and analysis of corporate performance, trends, forecasts, risks, and opportunities
  • Implement, manage and guide a standard budgeting process to provide accurate financial reports on a monthly, quarterly basis.
  • Review the current accounting policies and procedures and make adjustments to ensure compliance with US GAAP.
  • Be responsible for developing and maintaining a close business relationship with all external business i.e.bankers, audit and tax professionals, insurance and risk providers, IT support
  • Develop cash flow and analysis reports on a weekly basis or as requested
  • Prepare and manage all required Tax filings including payroll, sales, and use taxes
  • Administer the employee benefits plans and work closely with the payroll manager in onboarding all new employees and consultants.


STANDARDS AND QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate must have a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial roles. Additionally, the candidate should be accomplished in management accounting and an expert in the financial accounting standards and practices of a 501(c)3 non-profit.

The candidate will demonstrate a willingness to provide hands-on management of the role as well as a curiosity and ability to adapt quickly to an expanding non-profit. The candidate will own and lead the formal budgeting process for the company and utilize analytical tools for the company to better understand its goals.


  • BA/BS in Economics, Finance, Accounting or similar area of study
  • 10 years minimum of financial and accounting management
  • MBA preferred
  • CPA, a nice to have
  • Experienced and knowledgeable of US GAAP
  • Knowledge of legal contracts, fund accounting
  • Able to present financial reports to Executive Management Team, Board of Directors and government officials
  • Demonstrated experience in managing risk related to data security and privacy

  • Excel-including pivot tables, vLookups, macros and Power Query
  • MS Dynamics or similar CRM system
  • QuickBooks
