Job type: fulltime
Job industry: HR / Recruitment
Job description
WHY WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU
Retool will end the year with over 130 people and will more than double in 2022. We've spent the last year building a world-class team and, with that growth, comes the need for systems and processes to ensure the success and continued growth of our people. In the next year, we'll build foundational people programs, processes and practices to set ourselves up for healthy and scalable growth. The HR Generalist will be instrumental in their design and will be responsible for ongoing support with a constant eye towards helping people and Retool's culture. We're looking for someone who can look at our people practices and not only recognize where we can improve, but autonomously take the initiative to do so.
By joining a 100 person startup, you'll lead or be involved in a WIDE range of projects and initiatives. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to quickly build their skillset on a people or HR team. You won't be confined to what is written in the job description and we guarantee that the next month won't look like the last!
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You'll build and execute day-to-day operations on the HR team. You'll communicate our HR processes to employees and be the first point of contact when they have questions. For example, you'll assist with benefits administration, onboarding and off-boarding initiatives, help ensure data changes are accurately reflected in our systems-all while providing a positive experience for all Retools.
This role is perfect for someone who is excited by largely starting from a blank slate and helping us create solutions that scale and work for you! And, uniquely, this role will dog-food our own products to build internal tools for the People team. We're looking for someone excited to try new approaches to tried and true problems where appropriate! If you've been frustrated by "you name it" HRIS-you can partner with our engineers to create better solutions here!
WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH
You'll have tremendous impact as the second person on the HR team, reporting directly to the Head of HR. Partnering with recruiting, IT and workplace teams, you'll provide an engaging and positive experience for new and existing employees. Being a formative member of the team, you'll play a critical part in interviewing and hiring the rest of the people team. Your role will involve significant collaboration with all parts of our employee base, whether it's co-creating initiatives or collecting and incorporating feedback.
We're a diverse bunch with a variety of backgrounds: some of us come from industries unrelated to tech and others have grown up on a steady diet of Bay-area companies. We're a slightly sarcastic, dedicated, and hard-working group (who also loves plants and GIFS) and excited for you to join the team!
What you'll do:
* Serve as a contact for employees and managers regarding company practices and policies, communicating complex and sensitive information regarding benefits, leaves of absence, and payroll inquiries, handling confidential information with discretion
* Execute changes and ensure compliance on our HRIS, payroll, 401(k) administration, EEOC compliance reports
* Audit benefits offered and propose and execute on future additions. Help in benchmarking and selecting benefits for new regions
* Support additional to-be-created programs such as learning and development, employee recognition programs, and so forth
* Oversee leave administration including, Family Medical Leave Act, Leave of Absence, California Paid Sick Leave, Workers Compensation Related Leave
* Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law
* Support the administration and analysis of our employee culture survey
The skill set you'll bring:
* 5-10 years experience and background across all aspects of HR operations
* We believe a diverse work background will add value to our team-tech or software experience is not necessary, but hopefully you'll be excited by our space and challenges
* Comfortable in an unstructured environment
* Ability to prioritize
