Job description

The Position

Responsibilities:

We are looking for a motivated and exceptional postdoctoral research scientist to be involved in investigating epigenetic modifications that can positively or negatively influence transcriptional strength and hence productivity of CHO cells used to express therapeutic proteins. Epigenetic modifications, using gene editing technologies, can have drastic influence on gene transcription and have been employed to improve cellular productivity. The incumbent will use state of the art gene editing and host cell engineering techniques to deliberately alter epigenetic signatures of the CMV promoters and its surrounding DNA to improve rates of transgene transcription. The ultimate goal is to enhance protein expression in CHO cells used to manufacture therapeutic proteins. We also encourage and expect independent investigation of other novel and interesting cell biology topics within the scope of the cell line development field, such as protein folding, aggregation, and secretion, which are directly or indirectly influenced by gene transcription. The selected individual is expected to participate and present in group and department meetings, and is expected to work independently and manage several projects in parallel. The expected outcomes are discoveries to help deliver biotherapeutics and publication(s) in scientifically sound peer-reviewed journals.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have expertise in molecular/cellular biology, biochemistry, and preferably be knowledgeable in epigenetic analysis using bioinformatics and data-science. Familiarity with standard molecular biology techniques, CHIP assay, DNA manipulation and cloning, western blotting, PCR/qPCR, site directed mutagenesis, recombinant protein expression/analysis, and cell culture techniques are requirements. The candidate must be a good communicator with strong presentation skills and the ability to investigate and convey complex and difficult ideas and data both verbally and in writing. Expectations for this position include: very strong work ethic, initiation and completion of investigative projects within the expected time frames and with emphasis on accuracy and high-quality work.

A PhD in a related field with 0-2 years of postdoc experience is required. Qualified candidate is expected to have first author publications in the related fields (biochemistry, immunology, cellular/molecular biology, or cancer biology).
