Open to remote but must still be local to San Francisco Bay Area CA


The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, Global Controller, the Senior Manager, Accounting will be responsible for accounting functions supporting financial close activities and accounting operations, while adhering to all policies and procedures and following applicable accounting guidance (IFRS) and Japan SOX guidelines (JSOX). This position will be located in our San Francisco office close to transportation and restaurants.


Responsibilities including, but not limited to

· Lead month-end close, including monitoring the month end close checklist, reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations

· Assumed reviewer role of journal entries for expense accruals, including accruals for Clinical Trial CROs, manufacturing CMOs, licenses, service purchase orders, invoices not posted, etc.

· Assumed reviewer role of journal entries for prepayments, ST/LT reclass entries, and capitalization/amortization of prepayments expense

· Assumed reviewer role of journal entries for intercompany receivables and payables entries

· Prepare/review project cost allocation journal entries

· Close projects subledger and general ledger in Oracle Fusion

· Approve payment files

· Support SOX inquiries from auditors and own certain key controls

· Maintain ownership of ITGC (Information Technology General Controls) owned by Finance

· Maintain approval ownership of new users and/or changes to existing users roles and permission for members of the finance team, and user requests or non-employees

· Approve requests for new GL accounts and departments

· Assumed reviewer role of account reconciliations of accrued liabilities and prepaids

· Perform financial statement trend analysis, variance analysis, investigate unusual trends and perform corrections/reclass as needed

· Ensure procedures and documentation are in compliance with company policies and procedures

· Support ad hoc projects within the accounting function

· Manage one direct report


Required Qualification

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance

· 6+ years of experience in accounting/finance role with 3+ years as a manager

· Proven experience with accruals, including accruals for milestone-based billing and % of completion, clinical trials, and with accruals based on time and materials

· Possess strong computer and systems skills, including online document management experience, and Microsoft Office Suite with strong and proven MS Excel abilities and Online document management experience (i.e. BOX)

· Strong analytical skills

· Extremely organized with excellent attention to details

· Excellent communication skills are required

· In-depth experience working with internal functional groups

· Assertive, flexible, and self-motivated team player with proven success in problem solving and troubleshooting

· Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced and unstructured environment

· Proven ability to learn fast, follow instructions, establish priorities, work independently and meet deadlines


Preferred Qualifications

· Proficient with Oracle Fusion

· Experience with SOX

· Life science industry experience, including experience with clinical stage companies

· Experience with accruals for high volume of accruals

· Able to work longer hours during financial cycle close

· Experience in a high growth environment
