Senior Portfolio Accountant

(internal title = Investment Operations Senior Associate)

Overview

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the administration and operations of Parnassus portfolio strategies. Daily responsibilities include analysis and review of external administrator accounting and valuation, internal and external data reporting, collaboration with other members of the Fund Operations team to complete processes, and communication with external administrator partners to resolve outstanding accounting issues. Additional reoccurring duties involve performance calculation and analysis, preparation of fund and account data for internal and external dissemination, and working with the Fund Operations team on large projects such as new account openings, shareholder reporting and annual audits. The successful candidate will be comfortable taking the lead on projects, resolving accounting issues, and working with others across departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performing daily portfolio administration tasks which include reconciliation, corporate action, trade data and valuation review of external administrator work, shadow calculations of fund and portfolio valuation, preparation and review of internal and external reporting and communication with vendor partners to resolve any data discrepancies.
  • Calculation, analysis and review of funds and/or separate account performance, synthetic performance and composite performance.
  • Preparing, analyzing and reviewing holdings, trade and financial data for internal consumption and external reporting.
  • Providing requested data, both routinely and ad hoc, to internal teams, and reviewing reports with strategy data prepared by other teams.
  • Working with a multi-department team to open new accounts. Attend meetings, provide necessary data, and ensure functionality with external parties.
  • Contributing to internal and external audits by providing requested data and answering audit questions.
  • Providing out of office support to trade operations by working with traders, researching unsettled trades and providing trade details to custodians.
  • Contributing to and sometimes coordinating ad hoc tasks and special projects.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in portfolio accounting, administration and/or operations.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, written and communication skills.
  • Able to prioritize tasks and work under pressure when meeting daily deadlines.
  • Pays attention to detail and uses effective problem solving skills.
  • Effective at working both as an individual and in a team oriented environment.
  • Proficiency with the latest computer technology, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with trade operations and trade order management systems, such as Charles River, a plus.

Education:

· Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, business administration or economics

· We are currently working remotely, but we expect to be back in our office with a hybrid schedule on January 15th in San Francisco's Financial District near BART, Muni, ferries and cable cars. We also provide a generous commuter subsidy.
