Position Summary:
The Research and Development Group at ProteinSimple, a Bio-Techne brand, is seeking an innovative and experienced Process Development Scientist to join our growing team on our mission to develop game-changing analytical instrumentation. As a part of the Product Development Team, you will work among other innovative, supportive engineers and scientists that have a passion for product development and a knack for disrupting the way people typically characterize their proteins. In this role, you will be significantly involved in product development from concept to commercialization, delivering cutting edge technologies to our global customer base. Key Responsibilities:
* Think creatively to design and perform complex experiments to improve existing products and/or develop new products
* Meticulously record all details during product development and/or improvement and regularly present progress
* Support development and testing of protein analysis systems, including reagents, kits, consumables, and/or instrumentation
* Design, conduct, and analyze experiments to define processes and critical parameters using statistical methods (e.g., DOE) to enable robust product performance
* Create and write technical protocols (SOPs), QC specifications and test protocols for transfer of production to Manufacturing team
* Collaborate closely with R&D Science and Process Engineering/Manufacturing teams for technical transfer and implementation of manufacturing processes
* Review Manufacturing protocols, documentation and QC specifications as needed
* Support Manufacturing through key troubleshooting investigations and/or optimizations
* Actively pursue technical improvement projects and implement changes
* Train and mentor others in the lab
* Collaborate cross-functionally in multi-department projects and share knowledge with other teams, including Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality
* Follow guidelines and comply with all company safety, quality, and training procedures and regulations
* Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
* Ph.D. in a related field and up to 5 years of relevant experience is required
* Or, Master's degree in a related field (or equivalent experience) and 8-10 years of experience is required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Must demonstrate understanding and application of basic statistics and data analysis using statistical software (JMP, Minitab). Experience using DOE principles.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to clearly communicate ideas in research and manufacturing environments.
* Must have the ability to identify and define process improvement procedures
* Understanding of reagent/technology transfer process and process validation is required
* Knowledge of immunoassays and protein characterization assays is preferred
* Familiar with processes involving reagent/consumables development and verification/validation of instrumentation is a plus
* Excellent documentation and organizational skills
* Ability to balance several projects concurrently
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively, both within the development team and across departments/sites
* Must demonstrate leadership in training other lab members
* Must have demonstrated ability to work independently on complex projects and determine priorities for self and others
* Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Powerpoint, Word). Experience with JMP statistical software is a plus.
