Senior Research Scientist I, Inflammation

Sr Research Scientist I, Inflammation
The inflammation biology group at Gilead is looking for accomplished scientist to join the group and pursue cutting-edge discovery and translational research in immunology and autoimmune diseases. Our collaborative and interdisciplinary research team utilizes state-of-the-art technologies and innovative methodologies to advance medicines into the clinic. The successful candidate is expected to be lab-based at least 50% of the time and to contribute to the discovery, research, and development of novel immunotherapeutic agents to address unmet medical needs of inflammatory diseases including inflammatory bowel disease and rheumatoid arthritis.
Essential Functions:
-The candidate will aid in the analysis of large-scale phenotypic, genomic, and single cell sequencing data from internal and external sources to come up therapeutic hypothesis.
-S/he will independently design, conduct, analyze in vitro and in vivo experiments to validate targets in inflammatory diseases and proactively evaluate new technologies and develop new assays to enhance our understanding of disease mechanisms.
-The candidate will also manage multiple projects simultaneously and work cross-functionally with colleagues in the inflammation biology, protein engineering, chemistry, biomarker, bioinformatics, and clinical groups.
-S/he will need to present research findings and recommendations to senior staff, prepare research reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts, and contribute to the preparation of INDs, and patent filings.
-The candidate may manage and train Research Associates or direct members of project teams in the initiation and execution of laboratory experimentation.
-The successful candidate will also participate in evaluation of external licensing opportunities.
Qualifications and requirements:
-Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent degree and at least 3+ years of relevant post-graduate research experience in immunology or autoimmunity.
- Experience and knowledge in human immunology, adaptive immunity, and GPCR biology to design and perform high quality functional assays to target validation and/or therapeutic candidate optimization are preferred.
-The candidate must demonstrate critical analytical skill and ability to lead independent hypothesis-driven biological research, as exemplified by high quality publications or drug developmental experience.
-Other desirable experience includes: In vivo study design/execution and CRO management; and single cell transcriptomics analysis.
-Strong communication skills required, with an ability to communicate and scientifically engage individuals across a large breadth of levels and translate ideas and data into concise written and verbal communications.
