Job description

Summary:

The Manager of Purchasing, Raw Materials is responsible for managing all raw material purchasing activities to ensure that quality products and materials are purchased at competitive prices and delivered on time to ensure the manufacture of tire production schedules at both YTMM and YTMV.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Negotiates raw material pricing arrangements
  • Ensures raw materials meet specifications
  • Prepares raw material standard costs with assistance from YRC Purchasing for annual budget
  • Prepares purchasing forecasts and develops plans to improve cost of direct raw materials
  • Evaluates and selects current suppliers and vendors; recommends change of supplier if needed
  • Maintains and updates information regarding raw materials
  • Supports plants to ensure deliveries in cases of shortages or production changes
  • Ability to track local and global commodity trends, and advise of strategies to capitalize on lower cost sourcing solutions
  • Aligns material needs of both US plants so to optimize working capital utilization while minimizing overstock and obsolescence
  • Provide periodic risk analyses for pant shareholders; outlook vs monetary implications
  • Seeks continuous improvements opportunities for US plants in respect to handling, moving, storing raw materials
  • Practices open door communication with Japanese colleagues; building trust through transparency
  • Shares procurement methodology with other YCNA entity purchasing groups

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of principles and practices of procurement
  • Negotiation tactical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Detail Oriented
  • Analytical skills

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in business or related field required
  • MBA preferred
  • 10-15 years of purchasing/buyer experience, preferably in the tire or rubber industry
  • Ability to work in demanding environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Oracle
