How will you make an impact?

As a Bioinformatician in the Genetic Testing Solutions Group at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will be a key contributor in the development of molecular diagnostic products, including those being used to detect COVID-19. You will provide expert analysis of predicted assay performance, analyze assay performance retroactively, and generate reports for regulatory filings. You will work closely with a cross-functional group including Research Scientists, Software Developers, Project and Product Managers, Regulatory Affairs, and Quality Assurance.

What will you do?

Work in the Research and Development Department to establish and lead efforts aimed at assuring proper design and timely execution of development, analysis, and documentation of genomic diagnostic assays. You will monitor predicted assay performance in the context of new genomic data available in the public domain and provided by internal efforts.

Work with a team of wet lab scientists to provide interpretation of data resulting from analytical and clinical diagnostic studies.

How will you get here?

Education

MS degree with 5+ years of industry experience or Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, statistics, computer science, or biological sciences and 2+ years of industry experience

Experience

Training in a related area such as microbiology, inherited disease, or human genetics

Expertise with analyzing large data sets (shell scripting, Perl/Python, R, SQL, blast, mapping tools, public genomic databases)

Expertise with genomic analysis, biological concepts of genetic variations. Understanding of basic molecular biological methods, such as real time PCR and sequencing. Understanding of regulatory processes of clinical diagnostic products.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Excellent organizational and communication skills

Enjoys collaborating to solve challenging problems at the intersection of statistics and biology to help bring new diagnostic tests to patients

Experience working within a clinical diagnostics industry is preferred but not mandatory.
