The Senior Human Factors Engineer is responsible for enabling growth through the implementation and sustainment of continuous improvement practices related to Human Factors and Usability Analysis for Cepheid products and services. This role is for you if: you are relentlessly customer/ user-focused and have a curiosity about finding answers and solutions to a broad variety of tasks and challenges. You possess a diverse toolkit of user experience research and usability methods, and the ability to select, scale, and adapt your toolkit to a variety of investigative, information-gathering, and analysis tasks. In addition, you'll set the tone for a collaborative environment that values equity of voice, inclusive behaviors, and trusting teams.

This position is part of the Human Factors Engineering department and will be located in Sunnyvale, CA. Our department's vision is to cultivate a growth minded organization that develops people, processes, and leadership in pursuit of A Better Way.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Collaborate with Product Management and Engineering to incorporate human factors, user experience and customer feedback into product definitions and designs.

• Lead all aspects of our Usability Lab including scheduling study participants, recruiting and facilitating usability studies.

• Perform research relating to identifying the user, their needs, environments, values, and problems for creation of a use specification.

• Plan, conduct and analyze research according to usability plans using the appropriate methods (field studies, heuristic evaluations, user testing, focus groups, surveys, etc.).

• Conduct statistical (qualitative and quantitative) analysis of data to formulate insights.

• Write and present effective and compelling findings and recommendations based on research.

The essential requirements of the job include:

• Bachelor's degree in Human Factors Engineering (HFE), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Human Systems Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, or related field with 5+ years of related work experience OR Master's degree in field with 3+ years of related work experience OR Doctoral degree in field with 1+ years of work experience.

• Proven experience as a Human Factors Engineer (HFE) or similar role.

• Experience in creating study protocols, recruiting study participants and performing usability studies.

• Experience conducting statistical and qualitative data analysis.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

• Knowledge of worldwide human factors publications, standards, and both cognitive & physical heuristics (IEC 62366, AAMI HE75, FDA Applying Human Factors and Usability Engineering to Medical Devices).

• Prior experience managing a usability test lab or other research facility.
