Responsibilities: * Organize the Boys Varsity Baseball program. * Supervise & organize practice sessions and home contests. * Provide for supervision of athletes during all athletic trips. * Enforce all rules pertaining to participation in the program. * Care for and inventory all equipment charged to the program. * Perform other related duties as assigned by the athletic director. Qualifications: * Knowledge of all phases of the sport. * Ability to teach the fundamentals and skills of the sport. * Ability to work effectively with teenagers. * Knowledge and understanding of all state, section, league, district and school rules as they apply to the participation in the sport. * Knowledge of emergency first aid and training procedures and the ability to recognize and handle those injuries common to the sport.
Before beginning in this position the candidate selected must: * Have fingerprint clearance through the San Diego County Office of Education (Approx. $75 fee is the responsibility of the candidate) * Have a negative TB test (or Risk Assessment Questionnaire) on file with the Human Resources Office * Must have a valid CPR and First Aid certification (training provided by the District) * Candidate must be certified in ASEP course before they may coach.() - $38 or NFHS course () - $52; and NFHS Concussion Course () - FREE * It is recommended that the coach be certified in NFHS Heat Illness Prevention, if they are coaching outside in the fall. () - FREE * Other sport specific training will be required after being hired.

Per Ed Code 44919(b): "Governing boards shall classify as temporary employees persons, other than substitute employees, who are employed to serve in a limited assignment supervising athletic activities of pupils; provided such assignment shall first be made available to teachers presently employed by the district." Per Board Policy 4127, 4227, 4327: The Governing Board desires to employ highly qualified coaches for the district's sports, scholastic programs, extracurricular activities, and interscholastic athletic activities in order to enhance the knowledge, skills, motivation, and safety of all students and student athletes. The Superintendent or designee may employ a certificated or noncertificated employee, other than a substitute employee, to supervise, or instruct scholastic, extracurricular activities, interscholastic athletic activities as a temporary employee in a limited assignment capacity. (5 CCR 5590) Any certificated teacher employed by the district who applies for a position as a temporary athletic team coach, scholastic coach, or extracurricular activities coach, and who satisfies the qualification criteria established for the position shall first be offered the position. (Education Code 44919) The superintendent or designee shall establish qualification criteria for all athletic coaches in accordance with law and district standards. These criteria shall ensure that coaches possess the proper credential or Activity Supervisor Clearance Certificate, and/or DOJ/FBI fingerprint clearance, and an appropriate level of competence, knowledge, and skill. Coaches shall bear the expense of the Certificate and/or fingerprint clearance. All district coaches, including volunteer coaches, shall have completed a coaching education program that meets the standards developed by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Coaches shall bear the expense of the program. (Education Code 49032) All coaches shall be subject to Board policy and administrative regulation, as well as CIF bylaws and codes of ethical conduct.
