JOB SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of the Gymnastics Lead Coach is to provide on-site supervision for programs and coaches in addition to coaching responsibilities. The Lead Coach will also provide support for participants and gymnastics coaches as well as act as a liaison between participants, parents, coaches, and the City of Lakewood.
The City of Lakewood is currently recruiting variable employees for this position. A variable employee is an at-will employee who works in a seasonal or temporary capacity. Their work schedule is based on business need. This position would be a part-time non benefitted position.
Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide on-site supervision of programs and staff to ensure quality programming is conducted.
Maintain all necessary forms, paperwork and attendance records for participants as requested.
Act as an on-site liaison to assist coaches, facility staff, parents, and participants as needed.
Ability to coach all gymnastics programs offered.
Maintain a recreational focus in the gym at all times.
Lead trainings for coaches as necessary.
Problem solve, communicate and mediate (as needed) issues between parents, participants, staff, facility and the general public.
Attend to accidents and emergencies and complete necessary reports for all incidents.
Consult with Supervisor as necessary regarding city, department and division policies and procedures.
Maintain on-going communication with Supervisor regarding program status.
Assist coaches in teaching skills and rules to participants.
Maintain cleanliness and order of the program area.
Inventory and maintain all program equipment.
Assist in the development and enforcement of policies and procedures, emphasizing safety.
Ensure that closing duties are completed each evening.
Distribute program material as directed.
Ability to make decisions and enforce policies to ensure safety of staff and participants at all times.
Assist Supervisor with continued program development as needed.
Must attend required staff meetings.
HOURS OF WORK
Monday-Thursday 3:30-8:30pm
Saturdays 9am-2pm

Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Technical knowledge of the sport of gymnastics.
Preferred Certifications:
Concussion Training, or required within 3 months of employment.
KSA's and Physical/Mental Reqs
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Ability to perform the basic maneuvers of the sport of gymnastics.
Ability to spot participants during gymnastics.
Good vision, balance, coordination, arm/hand/leg movements.
Ability to give good, clear verbal direction to groups of 10 or more.
Ability to motivate and work with children and adults of all abilities.
Ability to follow supervisor's instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to deal effectively with emergency situations.
Ability to provide direction and supervision to subordinate staff.
Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to be flexible in work schedule.
Background check is required.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Lifting or Carrying:
Ability to lift and carry floor mats/equipment in and out of closet with assistance. Must be able to support the weight of gymnastics participants.
Pushing and Pulling:
Ability to set up and take down gymnastic apparatus.
Ability to roll/unroll gymnastic mats.
Body Positions/Movements:
Ability to stand, walk, run, sit, bend, stoop, squat, twist, reach.
Ability to work with participants at different heights and angles.
Hearing:
Must be able to communicate with staff and participants via phone and in person.
Vision:
Must be able to instruct, observe, and demonstrate all class program aspects.
Must be able to observe potential dangerous maneuvers.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Remembering:
Must remember participants' names and abilities, follow-up with participants, parents, staff, and recall how to respond to emergency situations.
Must remember policies and procedures and apply them accordingly.
Language Ability:
Must be able to read accurately.
Must be able to demonstrate logic and verbally communicate.
Reasoning:
Must be able to demonstrate good judgement and assessment of skills.
Must be able to demonstrate sound decision making skills and be reactive to the needs of the participants in providing intervention to injury.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a gymnasium and a general office environment with considerable background noise. Interaction with participants and parents, co-workers and general public.
