Job description
This position is responsible for reviewing the most complex commercial loan relationships to ensure acceptable credit standards are maintained, risk classifications are appropriate and that loans conform to internal policies and procedures. In addition, this position collaborates with management to monitor violations of policy or sound lending principles. This position also provides mentorship to junior staff members and works in conjunction with management to provide guidance over the commercial loan reviews conducted by the most junior members of the loan review team.
Principal Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Loan Review Manager, plan and participate in the loan reviews of the bank's commercial lending units to assess overall asset quality, risk and compliance with underwriting policies and procedures. Identifies potential borrower, structural and collateral weaknesses and loans that require additional follow up. Recommends appropriate risk ratings and actions to mitigate risk.
Examines potential repayment capacity of borrowers and sensitivity of potential changes through an analysis of multiple financial factors.
Reviews legal documentation, appraisals and environmental reports for accuracy, completeness and compliance with loan approvals, internal policies and procedures and federal and state regulations. Identifies, tracks, and formally reports legal documentation and file maintenance exceptions to all levels of management.
Summarizes findings and conclusions of credit file reviews in written reports that provide adequate support for the assigned risk rating and issues noted and accurately represents factors that mitigate risk.
May lead reviews as assigned, including planning, organizing, executing and preparation of the final report inclusive of the preparation of the summary, findings and recommendations.
Assesses risk rating changes submitted by commercial lines of business. At times, prepares reports used to track portfolio quality trends on a macro and micro basis.
Collaborates with management to monitor violations of policy or sound lending principles, assists in the identification of the cause of violations and participates in the recommendation of corrective actions.
Acts as a resource to junior staff members. Provides coaching and guidance to junior staff and assists management in the oversight of commercial loan reviews by junior members of the team.
Adheres to compliance procedures and internal/operational risk controls in accordance with any and all applicable regulatory standards, requirements, and policies.
Requirements
College degree or equivalent experience required.
10 plus years relevant work experience.
Additional Job Requirements
Expertise in commercial credit, accounting principles and loan auditing. Specialized knowledge of UCA cash flow, debt-service calculations, legal documentation, environmental assessments, field examinations, contract law, real estate law, Article 9 of the UCC code, federal and state banking regulations, and commercial real estate and equipment appraisal processes, including cash flow analysis, discount rates, lease analysis and valuation approaches.
Excellent ability to review complex lending groups and products such as construction & leveraged and ABL lending.
Superior written, verbal and presentation skills are needed to prepare written reports and to verbally present ideas in a persuasive manner.
Excellent collaboration skills to work with a team. Must demonstrate ability to coach and mentor a team while successfully sharing knowledge and skills.
Excellent project management and research skills and a demonstrated ability to manage projects from inception through completion within required timeframes.
Excellent ability to independently evaluate, analyze and quantify credit risk using multiple financial tools and techniques. Keeps informed of all current business, economic and industry conditions that may impact the profitability and ongoing business viability of borrowers.
Excellent PC skills including advanced knowledge of MS Office (Word Processing, Excel, and PowerPoint); the ability to confidently and competently navigate the internet, internal and standard industry applications. Ability to learn additional applications as needed.
A superior ability to provide attention to detail in the completion of loan reviews, and the ability to stay n task and manage to timelines for review completions.
