Job description

Allyx Biosciences is a biotechnology company based at the UCONN TIP Incubator in Farmington, CT. Allyx Bio is focused on translating novel discoveries on the mechanism of synapse loss for the development of disease modifying treatments for Alzheimer's disease and orphan neurodegenerative diseases. Leveraging multiple modalities to block synaptic toxicity caused by mis-folded and aggregated protein oligomers, we intend to preserve synapses thereby preserving cognition and function in patients.

We are seeking a talented and experienced scientist (Scientist I/II) to join our team. The candidate will contribute to advancement of the research and early development pipeline of novel biotherapeutics targeting neurodegenerative diseases. This individual is expected to have a strong foundation in protein characterization techniques, a high attention to detail and ability to lead projects independently. A successful candidate requires a strong background in Protein Chemistry and
Biochemistry with preferred experience in neuroscience. They will apply collaborative approaches to drug discovery and demonstrate enthusiasm for learning and applying new scientific techniques.
Responsibilities will include developing and carrying out different biophysical, immunological, and functional assays to characterize and prioritize candidate antibody-based therapeutics and validate their mechanisms and efficacy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute antibody projects utilizing immunology, cell biology and molecular biology approaches. Candidate will be responsible for analysis of biotherapeutics (including monoclonal and bispecific antibodies, fusion proteins) by common methods.
  • Develops, trouble-shoot and optimize in vitro assay protocols. Work in an independent manner to perform protein analysis including (but not limited to) CE SDS, flow cytometry,

ELISA, SPR, U/HPLC, DSF, PCR and cell based functional assays.

  • Perform protein expression and purification as needed. The ability to work in an independently driven environment. A focus on project deliverables is critical.
  • Manage external study activities through CROs and collaborators.
  • Guide and communicate with project team to ensure that antibody programs are executed efficiently.
  • Analyze experimental data and communicate research findings.
  • Maintain detailed records of all experiments and generate project reports.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in biology, biochemistry, cell biology, neuroscience or related field with at least 2 years of industry or postdoctoral experience.
  • Relevant biotech or biopharma industry experience executing antibody discovery projects from early lead discovery to IND-enabling studies.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills required.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully executing antibody generation and development by proven track record of accomplishments including publications and patents
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in antibody binding assays and analysis, especially

ELISAs, cell-based assays, and multicolor flow cytometry are required.

  • Experience with molecular cloning, transfection of mammalian cells, and protein purification
  • Self-motivated individual with good record keeping and good written and oral communication skills
