About INGAA

The Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) is a trade organization that advocates regulatory and legislative positions of importance to the natural gas pipeline industry in North America. INGAA is comprised of 26 members, representing the vast majority of the interstate natural gas transmission pipeline companies in the U.S. and Canada. INGAA members operate almost 200,000 miles of pipeline.


We are looking for a Director of Communications who will work with INGAA and the INGAA Foundation handling both internal and external business communications. In this role, you will identify and implement strategies for promoting the interests of the interstate natural gas pipeline industry. The incumbent will also oversee communications to INGAA member company representatives engaged with the organization.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter, forward-thinking, demonstrates poise under pressure, and is able to excel in a high-performance, fast-paced environment. In this role, you will implement and oversee our day-to-day communications functions, including membership communications, development of advocacy materials, , media relations, speechwriting, and digital media (i.e. website, social media). We are looking for someone who can generate buzz about our mission and initiatives. Top candidates will be skilled at creating content that both engages members and stakeholders. The ability to communicate effectively in written and oral communications is a must. The right candidate will have demonstrated excellent project and people management skills. Independence and collaboration are both highly valued.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure consistency in messaging and brand representation across all communications platforms
  • Develop and create the associations' communications messaging and content around key policy areas
  • Plan and implement proactive communications initiatives: media relations (press releases for association initiatives and key announcements), membership communications including articles, blog Posts, social media and grassroots advocacy
  • Assist in responding to media inquiries and providing communications counsel that supports advocacy and organizational goals.
  • Brainstorm, design, edit, and publish creative communications materials content (i.e., articles, infographics, videos, memes) to the website and social channels
  • Coordinate content campaigns for key media programs
  • Oversee communications efforts such as monthly newsletters, email blasts and alerts
  • Project management of special projects and initiatives
  • Perform other communications-related duties as needed


Background and Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or journalism
  • At least five years of communications, public relations or related experience.
  • Prior experience in communications at a trade association is a plus
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint, in particular) and experience with email marketing systems and social media platforms required
  • Detail oriented with exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written, research, oral, and presentation communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong problem-solving experience
  • Superior project management skills and the ability to handle multiple activities simultaneously
  • Proven ability to work in a team-based environment
  • Thoughtful design and breakthrough brand storytelling
