Job description

The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) included unprecedented relief for local governments and numerous important programs. As the voice of America's cities, towns and villages, the National League or Cities is looking for ARPA Graduate Interns to support our efforts to assist municipalities access and implement these funds and programs. The ARPA Graduate Intern would support NLC's ARPA Taskforce to develop programmatic and technical assistance content, and they would work with members to implement and understand ARPA funding streams to stabilize local governments, households, and small businesses. They would track, summarize, and share developing guidance about programs within ARPA. This position is fully remote. Depending upon assignment, the role could be more policy or communications focused. Please stipulate area of focus if preferred.

As a condition of employment, NLC employees are required to be fully vaccinated against Covid, and to provide proof of such, by November 30, 2021 or the date of hire, whichever is later.

Track guidance from federal agencies on ARPA programs
Draft memos on guidance for ARPA programs
Develop content (blogs, one-pagers, etc.) related to ARPA programs
Monitor local use of ARPA funds
Facilitate member recruitment from ARPA presentations and outreach
Support technical assistance staff
Correspond with multiple NLC centers to support programming and technical assistance

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree
Obtaining a Graduate Degree
Strong written and oral communication skills
Detail-oriented
Microsoft Office proficiency
Preference for candidates with experience with local government
Preference for experience with federal, state or local policy

Work Environment:

Work is typically performed in a standard office setting working at a desk or table on a level surface. Minimal travel is expected. May be required to work more hours than normal during a regular workweek depending on workload and deadline requirements.

This position is based at the NLC office in Washington, D.C., and may be eligible for part-time telework.
