Roles and Responsibilities
As a Proposal Editor, you will set the pace for continuous improvement of proposal content across all our Business Units spreading from US Government contracts to private sector Healthcare for implementing our products and services. You will collaborate with geographically distributed teams on a variety of proposals and related documents to create high-impact, well differentiated and responsive, winning proposals. To do so, you will edit proposal materials, improve their quality, and ensure they are editorially correct while maintaining technical accuracy and meaning. You will review content developed by SMEs, technical, and supporting writers for compliance to RFP requirements, provide consistency to proposal content across all volumes to include past performance, resumes, management, and technical. This will include discussing and explaining reasons for edits to coach other writers.
You will lead revisions, such as changing words and rearranging sentences and paragraphs to improve clarity, review proposal content for errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling and check the proposal for readability, style, flow and agreement with editorial policy. Contributes to the development of formats and guidelines to ensure the final product reflects organizational quality and branding.
Coordinates with content experts to resolve substantive questions, meaning, language, and context of the material. Interviews content experts and translate information into accurate, clear and concise prose. Independently writes, reviews, revises original material for proposal and proposal-related documents. Maintains consistency of voice, style, punctuation, spelling and grammar.
Research to understand relevant information from SMEs for use in proposal writing to address customer hot buttons, features and benefits of proposed solution, and incorporating win themes into proposal sections is an important aspect of the job, as is the ability to identify improvements in articulation of others' thoughts through writing and infographics, diagrams, highlights, and other techniques for keeping customer evaluators engaged and interested in what we are proposing. You will therefore partner with our Brand Experience Group to translate your and others' visualizations into high-quality graphics.
This role requires a senior professional with comprehensive proposal writing experience under his / her belt who wants to use the experience gathered over the years to define the shape that each proposal should take for it to be a winner. Since this will be done without much direct customer interaction, the candidate should have the ability to extract key information from recordings of customer meetings and product demonstrations as well as formal RFIs and RFPs released by the Customer.
When not working on editing winning proposals, you may be required to work upon specific improvement initiatives, as well as presales activities may which involve working on presentations, podcasts, and other collateral.
Skills and Experience:
The candidate should have the following skills and experience to qualify for the role:
- 10 to 15 years of large and complex proposal writing and editing experience
- Ability to provide practical, quick-turnaround, solutions for improving the quality of the proposal and ensuring that information is engaging and conveyed with technical accuracy and clarity.
- Strong command of US English grammar, usage, punctuation, and excellent writing skills.
- Articulate and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.
- Proven performance of editorial functions including proofreading and editing skills.
- Experience working with distributed teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Able to balance multiple projects and work to meet deadlines.
- Experience with US GPO, AP, and Chicago style guides.
- Ability to operate efficiently on a Windows platform with advanced computer skills. including MS Word (a solid knowledge of shortcuts/quick key strokes is preferred), MS Outlook, MS SharePoint, and Adobe Professional.
