Elevate is a small business serving a critical niche in the nonprofit sector. Our unique team model is designed to provide affordable and impactful foundation fundraising strategy and grant writing capacity to our nearly 100 nonprofit clients in need of sustainable funding to carry out their social change missions.

We are seeking experienced grant writers to support the identification of new prospects and the development of nuanced grant proposals and reports for 4-5 nonprofit clients. Typically assigned to teams working with larger or more complex organizations, this Senior Grant Writer role is ideal for established institutional fundraising professionals seeking a flexible, virtual, and dynamic career in grant writing with the opportunity to work in multiple issue areas and alongside more than 40 other fundraising professionals.

As a Senior Grant Writer you will:

  • Provide advanced proposal development, drafting, and report creation for clients with minimal oversight from a team Director;
  • Lead program calls and manage relationships with key program staff at your client organizations;
  • Develop new language for clients as needed;
  • Provide independent lead generation and prospecting;
  • Collect and create attachments, making recommendations and working with client program or finance staff as needed;
  • Take full ownership of submission processes;
  • Partner with team Directors as a thought partner for clients, offering ideas and suggestions proactively as well as providing strategy suggestions; and
  • Be willing and able to develop knowledge of issue-area and fundraising trends.


Ideal candidates will:
  • Have at least 2-3 years in an institutional fundraising role with a preference for:
    • Experience writing detailed proposals in at least 2 issue areas; progressive responsibility within an organization; success working in institutional fundraising for multiple organizations; and/or experience with different types of grants (public, private, corporate);
  • Demonstrate sufficient familiarity with budgets, financials, and program evaluation to organizational leaders on the appropriate information and attachments to include with a grant proposal or report;
  • Demonstrate a high-level of skill in managing complex projects independently;
  • Have experience managing drafting and submission in a large grant calendar with consistent accountability to internal and external deadlines;
  • Enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues who bring a variety of personal and professional strengths to your teams;
  • Have patience, poise, humor, and a willingness to roll up their sleeves with our clients;
