Overview
The Financial Analyst will be a key member of the MSR Portfolio Management team responsible for supporting existing reporting and analytic tools, providing solutions to new challenges, and contributing to strategic projects. This role offers unique growth opportunities to enhance a career in business, data and financial analytics, and will have direct communication with senior business leaders. The candidate needs to be solution oriented, while delivering timely and high-quality results with an ability to pursue multiple concurrent initiatives and work collaboratively with business and finance team members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The following job functions are not all-inclusive. The employee will be required to perform other job-related tasks/responsibilities as requested. Job duties may change as required by needs of company.
- Become an integral part of the MSR Portfolio Management monthly P&L business reporting process.
- Provide data support and analytics related to performance and data integrity.
- Support the Financial Reporting Manager in developing, automating, and maintaining regularly used reports, databases and financial models (balance sheet, P&L and capital forecast).
- Collaborate with finance and business unit partners to understand business problems/needs.
- Proactively partner with other departments and team members to promptly resolve issues.
- Assist the Financial Reporting Manager with monthly accounting close activities, including accruals calculation, mark to market results, processing, and data integrity checks.
- Extract data from databases to create presentable reports, charts and graphs.
- Participate in ad-hoc projects as assigned.
- Analyze large datasets to create reporting on all aspects of the business.
- Ability to multitask and handle incoming requests in conjunction with other ongoing projects and priorities.
- Strong curiosity and enthusiasm to learn the business and identify potential areas of process improvement.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain focus.
- Analyze existing portfolio for trends and performance.
- Maintain existing reporting environment through data integrity monitoring.
- Ability to develop and maintain data management systems and spreadsheets with a high focus on detail and accuracy.
- Ability to sanity check and analyze results on a high level.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Expert skill level with Microsoft Excel with particular focus on financial modeling and use of advanced functions including pivot tables, power pivots, arrays, lookups. Excel Macro/VBA experience preferred.
- Advanced skill level with SQL server.
- Experience with data analytics software such as Alteryx is preferred. Experience with CAS is highly preferred.
- Automation experience and familiarity with Python, preferred.
- Ability to translate large amounts of data into useful information and actionable conclusions.
- Ability to design, prepare and understand detailed, financial reports and analysis.
- Familiarity with general accounting principles is preferred.
- Ability to think strategically and operate effectively with management.
- Possess a high level of motivation and demonstrated aptitude in problem solving and analysis, with a strong attention to detail.
- Degree in Finance, Economics, Business analytics, Data analytics or related business concentration required with a demonstrated record of success.
- 1-3 years related experience in data/business analytics with financial disposition role in reporting or analytical roles.
- Mortgage and/or financial industry experience strongly preferred.
- Extensive and successful experience working in a multi-unit environment.
- Understanding of mortgages or real estate finance/origination is a plus.
