POSITION SUMMARY :
The Suwannee ER Paramedic will collect and convey information to both their team members and the attending Physician regarding the health status of patients. The Hospital Paramedic will perform all duties identified in their job description and validated by competency assessment under the License of the Physician Medical Director. They will report to the Director of Emergency Department. They will serve as a member of the Healthcare team through active communication; documentation; feedback and assistance as needed or requested. The Hospital Paramedic will provide for patient safety. Attend meetings and in-services as required by departmental policy. Contributes to the growth and development of self and department.

Maintains an active involvement. Maintains good working relationship with patients, visitors, physicians, co-workers, and other hospital staff. Maintains competence with charting system. They may not, under any circumstances, perform the prohibited functions listed below.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives
  2. Maintains competence in documentation
  3. Answer and receive patient report from EMS on radio (not allowed to give or take orders over radio)
  4. Receive EMS hand off reports at facility
  5. Utilize SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) for communication
  6. Support and represent the facility's Core Values while performing the role
  7. Attend meetings and in-services as required by departmental policy
  8. Clean stretchers, closets, and cabinets as appropriate.
  9. Check-in patients on arrival to the ER and perform a rapid visual assessement
  10. TECHNICAL FUNCTIONS:
  11. 12 Lead EKG
  12. Input and output documentation
  13. Document in medical record
  1. EHR documentation of care
  2. Document in eMar & BCMA
  3. Administer approved medications
  4. Stock
  5. Check equipment
  6. Participate in quality improvement projects
  7. Insert IVs/IOs
  8. Discontinue IVs
  9. Obtain clean catch urine samples
  10. Clean stretchers and rooms
  11. Perform CPR/ACLS
  12. Transport patients
  13. Splint application
  14. Wound cleaning
  15. Apply traction
  16. Application of oxygen per order
  17. Accucheck
  18. Answer EMS radio and work with Charge Nurse or Flow Coordinator to place patient
  19. Oral and endotracheal suctioning
  20. Suture set up and assistance
  21. Chest tube/pleur-e-vac set up
  22. Remove sutures and staples
  23. Insertion of Foley catheter
  24. Administration of Fleet's enema
  25. Central line tray set up
  26. Insert oral/nasal airways
  27. Lumbar puncture set up and assist
  28. Thoracentesis set up and assist

Qualifications
Required Job Qualifications Include:
Education :
  • Ability to read, write, and understand written and oral instruction.
Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a filed paramedic with an EMS agency and/or clinical experience working in a hospital.
Licensure/Certification:

  • State of Florida EMT-P Certification
  • BLS and ACLS through American Heart Association
  • PALS
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Current clinical competency must be demonstrated and additional education/training may be required by the hospital employing the ER Paramedic. Competency assessment, training, education and performance review shall be the sole responsibility of the hospital that employs the ER Paramedic.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to communicate with administration, staff, physicians, and patients, and family, at all levels.
  • Knowledge of body substance isolation
  • Ability to use a computer and calculator
  • Ability to listen, empathize and respond to patient, family, internal and external partners needs
