Orion offers its proprietary homeowner insurance products to insurance agents in four states with plans to rapidly expand nationwide. Job Summary
The Sr Director of Finance will be responsible for performing effective risk management and planning the organization's financial strategy. It is a very important and complex role since an organization can only survive if it actively investigates and safeguards its finances. The Finance Director must be well-versed in all aspects of financial management ranging from simple accounting to broad investment and banking operations. The goal is to protect the company's revenues and profits to achieve full financial control and sustainable growth. They will have the ability to work as part of a team in a deadline driven environment, be able to multi-task, and be comfortable taking directions and working independently.
The ideal candidate will contribute to the overall success of the organization by effectively managing all financial tasks. They will oversee the financial operations of the business and provide frequent financial reports. They will also assure strict adherence to financial regulations and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial statements and reports
- Ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies
- Effectively maintain all financial records
- Drive the company's financial planning.
- Perform risk management by analyzing the organization's liabilities and investments.
- Ensure cash flow is appropriate for the organization's operations.
- Supervise all finance & accounting personnel.
- Manage vendor relationships.
- Prepare reliable current and forecasting reports.
- Ensure compliance with the law and company's policies.
- Produce error-free accounting reports for review.
- Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process.
- Set department's yearly / quarterly goals.
- Support month-end and year-end close process.
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
- Communicate effectively with agencies and insureds on refunds or commissions.
- Communicate with other departments on work status and issues that may arise.
Qualifications
- 10+ years in accounting or related field
- P&C Insurance statutory accounting knowledge required
- Proven experience in leadership role
- In depth knowledge of corporate financial law and risk management practices
- Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.
- Proficient in the use of MS Office and financial management software (e.g., QuickBooks)
- Ability to strategize and solve problems.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and people skills
- An analytical mind, comfortable with numbers
- CPA is a plus
- BSc/BA in Accounting, Finance, or relevant field
- MSc/MBA is a plus
- Industry experience strongly preferred
Physical Demands

Work Environment
The office environment is generally quiet and, in a temperature, controlled setting with random adjustments in noise or temperature due conversations, unscheduled maintenance repairs to the building or its interior offices or unpredictable situations due to weather or other acts beyond company control. An employee must be willing to work their regularly assigned work schedule for their duties and/or job responsibilities and in times of need, be able to work an extended schedule depending on company/department needs, project requirements or customer demands.
