The Clinical Translation Research Site has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Laboratory Technician to work on the UHealth campus. This position requires a person who has some knowledge of general laboratory duties and/or biological sciences. The incumbent will perform comprehensive clinical laboratory procedures of low and high complexity as directed by the Laboratory Supervisor. General responsibilities include processing of patient specimens, maintenance of laboratory equipment, data entry, maintenance of laboratory records including quality control, quality assurance, instrument logs, and inventory of reagents and supplies. Occasional coverage different lab locations.

CORE FUNCTIONS

* Receive and accept the samples coming from the clinics and hospitals, separate them by type of tests required, and distribute to the different laboratory sections that will perform each specific type of test
* Enter accessioning data into computer systems
* Compare accessioning records to samples received to ensure accessioning accuracy; investigate missing samples and perform quality assurance on all accessioned samples
* Transports samples from clinic or hospital to laboratory in compliance with CLIA and ASHI standards
* Processes and dispatches specimens to reference laboratories and/or centers assuring that viability is maintained by proper preservation (e.g. packing in dry ice, pre freezing, samples, wet ice, or adding preservatives) and that laws and regulations are followed for transporting etiologic agents
* Perform preparation of reagents and controls
* Perform weekly and daily maintenance of equipment
* Maintains rooms and equipment clean and functional
* Provide support to physicians and clinic staff as necessary
* Organizes stock and maintains inventory; order stock as needed.

CORE REQUIREMENTS

* High School diploma or equivalent required
* One year of relevant experience required; medical experience preferred

* Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

* Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

* Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
