Description:
Purchasing & Materials Manager is a supply chain and logistics professional specialized in ensuring cost-effective purchase of all materials and services as required by the procurement plan and in compliance with the Company's policies and procedures. In addition, the Purchasing and Materials Manager is responsible for the material management flow for receiving, stocking, issuing and all other associated material flow areas.
Purchasing & Materials Manager Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, lead, and execute purchasing and materials management strategies.
- Oversee the Purchasing, Warehouse and Materials Crib Departments
- Interview, hire and train new departmental employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising complaints and resolving problems.
- Direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in buying and quoting materials, equipment, machinery, services and supplies.
- Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.
- Partner with internal customers to ensure clear requirements documentation.
- Establish standard operating procedures for purchasing and material management; monitor the effectiveness of procedures; revise and improve as data indicates.
- Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors. Develop negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms. Resolve supplier grievances and claims.
· Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment.
- Assess, manage, and mitigate risks. Analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability and monitor and forecast price and market trends to identify changes and opportunities.
- Design, plan and implement sourcing and purchasing strategies and develop supply sources to maintain vendor competitiveness and secondary sources as necessary.
- Perform cost and scenario analysis and benchmarking.
- Draft and review contracts, and modify terms and conditions
- Manage a system with department supervisors to determine material and parts and material status.
- Oversee the receipt of materials, including verification of part numbers and quantities, checking for discrepancies such as damaged or unmarked parts. Manage Return Material Authorizations (RMA's) as necessary.
- Ensure proper receiving, storage and inventory of all raw materials, components, and finished goods.
- Maintain accurate inventory counts and costs. Perform yearly complete physical inventory and interface with outside auditors.
- Generate reports on inventory movement scrap product received.
- Perform tasks and duties as defined by the Director of Supply Chain Management.
Purchasing & Materials Manager Requirements, Responsibilities and Qualifications
- BS degree in supply chain management, logistics, or business administration preferred.
- 10+ years' experience in the management of the procurement of materials/equipment/supplies and materials management in a manufacturing environment.
- Skilled at negotiation and networking.
- Must possess communication, leadership and interpersonal skills to manage a professional team.
- Interest in market dynamics along with a keen business sense.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Problem solver with a strong analytical mindset.
- Ability to gather and analyze data and to work with figures.
- Solid judgement and sound decision-making skills.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing concepts and techniques
- Exercise sound and reliable discretion and judgment.
Physical Demands:
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
· The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work environment:
· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Position reports to the Director of Supply Chain Management.
