About Our Job

At Neighborhood Services, our passion is supporting and building great communities. We are seeking a candidate with an interest in neighborhood planning to help Sarasota County neighborhoods achieve their vision through thoughtful community engagement, problem-solving, neighborhood plan development, and implementation. The candidate will work with staff to coordinate and implement programs that provide services and resources to neighborhoods, creating and implementing neighborhood plans, tailored outreach and engagement, maintaining liaisons with neighborhood associations, community organizations, non-profits, businesses and other government agencies. The candidate will also contribute to safe neighborhoods and crime prevention initiatives.

Job Description:

* Coordinate activities that determine the assets and needs of identified neighborhoods. Coordinates and facilitates communication between the County and identified neighborhoods, associations and stakeholders.
* Coordinates the research, planning and development of neighborhood plans. Oversees the implementation and evaluation of neighborhood plans.
* Coordinates the delivery of services by the various agencies of county government to serve neighborhoods and implement neighborhood plans.
* Work with stakeholders and various community agencies and/or organizations to facilitate, build consensus, and guide compromise on community issues. Contributes to other activities/events to help educate citizens on the programs, services and projects of Sarasota County Government, including Civics 101: A Citizens Academy.
* Works with stakeholders to enhance the capacity of residents and develop shared responsibility of neighborhood organizations. Contributes to the Neighborhood Grant program to enhance the capacity of neighborhood residents.
* Coordinates and oversees the development of special events and programs that enhance and develop civic involvement and neighborhood pride.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

About You

Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Planning, Geography, or a closely aligned and related field. A minimum of one-year related professional planning experience (may include related planning internships). A Master's Degree may substitute for the required experience. Planning experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis depending on the type of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Related community events/activities planning, public relations, public speaking and local government experience preferred. GIS experience is preferred. Multi-channel communication experience preferred, may include social media, e-newsletters, multi-media presentations, development of visual aids, photography or video.

Job Competencies: General Computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, SharePoint, Social Media such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, Constant Contact, public relations and public speaking skills, meeting/event planning, knowledge of public administration principles/practices, ability to develop and ensure compliance of principles, policies and practices.

Pay: $42,036.80 - $57,491.20
