You Have:
- Four-year college degree in related field required
- Seven to ten years of experience in related benefit administration areas, such as benefits compliance, health and welfare programs, retirement plans, savings plans, and income protection programs.
- Must be familiar with U.S. and Canadian regulations and their application pertaining to the various governmental agencies and laws; maintaining pertinent files and relative data.
- Certification in HR (SPHR) or Benefits (CEBS) is preferred.
- Ability toadapt to many varied situations, circumstances, and personalities at all levels within and outside the company concerning sensitive areas, controversial subjects, and highly confidential information.
- Experience in a union environment and with additional human resources experience preferred.
Your Purpose:
You will report directly to the Vice President of HR. You will be responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of all North American employee benefit programs, including health and welfare, retirement, work-life programs and benefits compliance. You will provide strategic vision and analysis on the entire benefit offerings designed to contribute to the employee's total rewards package. You will take an active role in assisting in the review, revision, cultural alignment and implementation of benefits policies. You will lead continuous process improvement efforts within the various benefits processes and apply collaboration with leaders, best practices and leverage benchmarking to ensure sustainability, attraction and retention and overall HR roadmap initiatives are met. You will ensure compliance with all regulatory compliance requirements and monitor the continued benefits compliance efforts within the benefits department. You will recommend necessary steps to control company costs related to employee benefits, especially in the areas of health care, retirement, disability, work life modernization and compliance. Assist with global initiatives in benefits as needed.
Your Work:
- Serve as the Gerdau HIPAA Privacy Officer.
- Serve as the Chairperson for the North American Benefits Administrative Committee and Manitoba Pension Committee, plus serving as a voting member on the Investment Committee.
- Present periodically to executive management, Corporate Brazil process owner and the Board of Directors.
- Set the vision and accurate development of general changes in employee benefits.
- Timely and quality implementation of specific changes in plans and programs.
- Recommend adoption of equitable, sustainable and competitive employee benefit programs.
- Carrying out company benefit programs within established guidelines for company divisions.
- Audit application practices by all units for adherence to Corporate benefit policies.
- Accurate and timely administration of the provisions of benefit plans as assigned or needed by the Benefit Plans Administrative Committee, Investment Committee, Manitoba Pension Committee or HIPAA compliance committee.
- Ensure maintenance of all program documents, plan documents, and materials on a current basis.
- Administer policies, properly carrying out all company human resources practices affecting benefits.
- Supervise a large staff of professionals levering teamwork, customer centricity, quality, timeliness and accuracy. Also, collaborate well with Field HR operations and leaders.
- Review of governmental regulations and make timely recommendation of changes to the benefit program to comply with such regulations.
- Review of cost related to employee benefit plans and recommend changes to control the cost of these plans.
- Oversee multiple annual vendor reviews, performance guarantees and ensure quality service by partners for employee, families and retirees.
- Contract, negotiate, contain costs, coordinate and act as company liaison with related consultant firms. Maintain effective relationship with regulatory agencies, as necessary.
- Carry out effective liaison with outside organizations, working in close cooperation and coordination with legal counsel, consultants, and insurance company representatives.
- Coordinate employee communication programs pertaining to benefit changes, legal notifications required, benefit-related counseling programs, and policy manual updates.
- Administer the benefit plans in conformity to governmental regulations concerning ERISA, COBRA, etc. Uphold all fiduciary standards to make sure consistency is maintained and enforced and training of fiduciary responsibilities is conducted.
