Job description

Responsibilities: The NPD Project Engineer works with a cross-functional group, and "hands on" to design, develop, validate, launch & support new products as they move through the NPD product life cycle. This individual may lead 1-3 projects simultaneously, managing all aspects of the development cycle to ensure targets are met. This is an entry level role and reports to the Engineering Manager but can function independently with little oversight. Training will be provided for the right candidate.


Responsibilities:

  • Support Supply Chain VA / VE projects to optimize product costs
  • Fulfill the functions outlined in the Engineer II job description
  • Apply engineering fundamentals to perform hand calculations to support design decisions
  • Perform CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations, analyze and utilize outputs to optimize product design and maximize fluid flow efficiencies.
  • Manage all project related details throughout all phases of the product development process
  • Work interdepartmentally to track the required cross-functional activites
  • Develop & maintain project schedules that reflect critical milestones, and drive projects to the commitment dates
  • Track and maintain project and product costs and ensure BOM and project budget targets are achieved
  • Work with purchasing, suppliers, and quality engineers to communicate requirements and ensure parts and products meet specifications and are approved
  • Carry out risk mitigation action plans when critical requirements (technical/functional, manufacturability, supply, cost, schedule, etc) are in jeopardy
  • Oversee pilot runs to ensure products are properly manufactured and in sufficient quantity to meet test needs
  • Oversee validation and approval processes to ensure key specification and performance requirements are met and regulatory listings are achieved
  • Report project status summaries as needed
  • Ensure products are properly released via DCO/ICO/PCO process


Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering; Master of Science in engineering is a plus
  • Preferred accreditation: Project management, DFSS and DFM
  • Entry level but up to 4+ years of engineering experience (including 3+ engineering design and 1+ project management) possibly already developing new products involving mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electrical design.
  • Experience having led at least one major development project from concept to launch, water treatment or fluid handling product launches are preferred.
  • Experience with discipline specific design tools such as Solidworks or PCB layout
  • Proficiency with MS Project scheduling capabilities
  • Experience with hands-on prototype, build and test in a laboratory environment
  • Able to speak equally well to technical and non-technical audiences and present a professional image to customers and suppliers.
  • Up to 20% travel including: domestic and international trips to commission or troubleshoot installed products at customer locations, vendor part approvals, etc.
