Southwest Foodservice Excellence, LLC ("SFE") is a leading foodservice provider to over 150 K-12 public school districts in 15 states. The Company focuses on providing nutritious and high-quality service to its partner school districts and nearly 700,000 school children. In the current school year that began July 1, 2020, SFE is projected to serve about 100 million meals in the partner districts it serves. The Company was founded in Arizona in 2004 and has grown rapidly to become the 14th largest food service provider in the U.S, and the leading K-12 only focused foodservice provider in the U.S. SFE acquired OrganicLife (OL) in August 2018. OL is a leading K-12 foodservice provider in Illinois. SFE is headquartered in Scottsdale, AZ.
SFE is privately owned by executive management, the original business founders, and Harkness Capital Partners (NY). Harkness completed the acquisition of its majority interest in SFE in August 2017. Harkness is a private equity firm dedicated to investing in leading business services companies and providing capital and operating support to help them grow.
Summary of Position:
SFE is looking for an entry-level and motivated Human Resources Specialist to join their entrepreneurial culture. If you are a self-starter looking for an upbeat environment with great growth potential, then this is the position for you! The ideal candidate will be efficient in handling a variety of personnel-related administrative tasks and providing clerical support to the HR department and employees regarding human resources-related activities, policies, processes, and procedures. While previous HR or administrative experience is not required, a general aptitude for those types of duties is preferred and prior examples of success within an HR or admin role is a plus.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with on/offboarding
- Track background checks and maintains communication with new hires.
- Assist with recruiting as needed
- Order office supplies as needed
- Update and keep employee records/files in check
- Maintain organizational charts, resource pages, and other HR-related documents
- Respond to HR-related inquiries and requests via phone and email, and/or redirect them to the appropriate person.
- Ensure we are compliant with I-9 and E-Verify completion - track and communicate accordingly.
- Help payroll verifies and approves new hires in the Paycom system - ensure all data is accurate and complete prior to hiring.
- Manage mail, deliveries, orders, and incoming packages.
- Support organizational review process, including development plans, succession planning, quarterly check-ins, and organization structure changes
- Create and review system reporting to help ensure compliance within HR policies and directives
- Ensure requests for employment or income verifications receive prompt and accurate responses
- Provide administrative support such as coordinating meetings, handling heavy scanning/copying projects, drafting or revisiting critical documents, arranging conference and web calls, scheduling large meetings, and creating and maintaining electronic and paper files
- Assist with management of benefits enrollment, benefits billing, HRIS data entry, records maintenance, etc.
- Complete projects and special assignments by establishing objectives; determining priorities; managing time; gaining the cooperation of others; monitoring progress; problem-solving; making adjustments to plans.
- Recommend and implement process improvement (e.g. streamline, add automation, eliminate redundancies, reduce cost, number of hand-offs between roles, etc.) and incorporate into SOP or workflow revisions.
- Undertake any other HR administrative duties as required
Qualifications
- College degree preferred or some college with work experience equivalent to same
- Proficient with a general suite of technology including Microsoft Office and Excel (You will be tested on an intermediate basis)
- Proficient in learning HRIS systems and recruiting/workers compensation systems
- Detail-oriented, analytical, and motivated
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of the information and exercise good judgment and discretion in handling and disseminating information
- Filing and organizing data, paperwork, etc.
- Willing to work as part of a team or independently and have the drive to take on a variety of tasks and projects

- Excellent communication skills with ability to interface with a wide variety of people in a pleasant, professional and courteous manner while maintaining good working relationships with fellow employees as well as outside vendors and associates.
- Strong writing skills to effectively convey ideas and directives in a concise and positive style
- Demonstrated ability and tact at handling confidential and highly sensitive company and employee information
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- This role will require in-office days, along with a remote day once a week. Our Client's workforce is 85% virtual at this point, so exposure to other employees will be very limited.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Ability to speak, read, write and understand English. The ability to speak, read, write Spanish is a plus.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time while talking on the telephone, using computers for typing, and entering data up to 3 - 4 hours at a time.
- Must be able to work a minimum of a 40-hour workweek, plus additional as required to complete assignments on a timely basis.
- Must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 10 pounds - maintaining files and documentation requires stooping as well as carrying and/or lifting materials.
