SUMMARY:
The Product Development Technician will support the product development function through innovation of processing biological materials, laboratory testing, and creation of procedures and specifications for Product Development and Clinical Innovation departments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Processes human tissue in an R&D laboratory environment using surgical instruments and small machinery to support product development projects
* Performs testing to characterize product/material properties including current products, future configurations, and competitive products.
* Maintains clean room and lab spaces in a clean and orderly manner in accordance with Company standards, policies and procedures
* Works with time sensitive material and performs all required functions within the time-based standards and requirements
* Follows quality assurance (Q/A) and regulatory processes, as required
* Adheres to policies and practices from the Quality Management System based on Company standards and regulatory standards for tissue processing, as required
* Understands and adheres to the Company's standards regarding the protection of intellectual property, confidential/proprietary information and trade secrets
* Creates protocols, executes testing, and creates reports for given assignments.
* Creates drawings/specifications for new product configurations as well as standardizing existing specifications as necessary to support the product development process
* Monitors and maintains laboratory equipment, instruments as needed to support the work assigned
* Interfaces with internal departments to ensure Lab maintenance is performed and well-coordinated with other key functional areas.
* Assists Clinical Innovation Lab
* Supports development and testing for Clinical Innovation
* Provides support to Medical Education by performing lab demonstrations and coordinating equipment for Medical Symposiums
* Reviews process operations
PROBLEM SOLVING/DECISION MAKING/ACCOUNTABILITY/SCOPE:
* Independently manages time to meet the goals for the project
* Develops and executes protocols, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions
* Proactively identifies and proposes solutions to product development technician-related issues
* Conducts daily tasks with minimal functional guidance
* Supports/follows corporate policies
* Works within assigned project budgets
* Knowledge of materials, methods, techniques, practices, tools, equipment and processes required to efficiently execute tasks in product development laboratory environment
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
* Bachelor's degree with major course work in an Engineering/science/medical related field preferred
* Aptitude and ability to learn:
* Good Laboratory Practices (GLP's)/ Safety Practices
* Proper SOP and documentation practices
* Proper Lab technique and practices (i.e. aseptic practices, sterile gowning and gloving)
* Allograft packaging
* Tissue processing
* Good computer skills, including proficiency at MS Word, MS Excel and Windows-based operating systems, are ideal
* SolidWorks® experience/ability to learn is preferred
* Good organization skills to support the efficiency of the product development group
* Ability to work with minimal supervision
* Must listen well and have excellent communication skills to fully articulate assigned priorities
* Must have a professional demeanor and positive attitude
* Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all members of the laboratory, tissue processing, research & development. Must be comfortable interacting at all levels within these functions.
