Position Summary

Ferrara Candy Company's Bellwood manufacturing facility is seeking a strong HR Generalist to lead cultural change, build partnerships, develop others and offer creative solutions to business issues. This is a true Generalist role with exposure to recruiting, employee engagement, leadership development, employee relations, training, and benefits administration and performance management.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead cultural change and recruiting efforts for hourly production positions; update and maintain the applicant tracking log, schedule pre-employment physicals; and write and place job advertisements
  • Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with HR group to develop solutions, programs and policies
  • Mange and resolve complex employee relations issues; conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations under the leadership of the local HR Manager
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions)
  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention
  • Actively identify gaps, propose and implement changes necessary to mitigate risks
  • Challenge the organizational structure and existing process and procedures; proposes changes as needed
  • Assist in creation and facilitation of management training programs
  • Serve as backup for the weekly administration of payroll processing
  • Improve manager and employee performance by identifying and clarifying problems, evaluating potential solutions, implementing selected solution and coaching and counseling managers and employees
  • Conduct new employee orientation to ensure employees gain an understanding of benefit plans, HR policies and enrollment provisions
  • Maintain employee personnel files and other departmental files in a neat, organized and secure and confidential manner
  • Lead by example in demonstrating the Company's operating principles
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, GMP and safety standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Ferrara Candy Company business objectives


Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required; PHR or SHRM-CP designation preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years in an HR role in a manufacturing environment
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
  • General knowledge of employment laws in COBRA, FMLA, DOL and OSHA
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Windows environment. Must include Excel and demonstrated skills in database management and record keeping
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
  • Strong presentation skills; ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization


Working Conditions

This position requires knowledge and awareness of manufacturing and industrial sites. Protective gear will be required where appropriate. Position may require working varying start times and weekends depending on business needs.
