Real Estate Controller \ Director of Accounting

Chicago, IL

We are actively seeking a Real Estate Controller to join a growing, vertically-integrated $500M CRE firm operating a national portfolio of office, retail, industrial assets.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee financial planning and forecasting, P&L analysis, and reporting
• Prepare balance sheet and income statement for assigned portfolio of properties
• Manage the annual financial planning and forecasting process and drive improvements in efficiency, accuracy, and transparency
• Update valuation of each investment in a particular portfolio to make sure each investment has proper fair value
• Responsible for oversight of fund level reporting and coordination of client equity contributions and distributions
• Assist in preparation of audit and tax schedule/returns and/or review of monthly variances
• Work with internal and external property in to ensure accuracy monthly variance reports and reconciliations/billings
• Manage, train, and hire accounting team members
• Participate in ad hoc/special projects as needed
• Perform property site visits for both existing and prospective projects

Qualifications:

• 7+ years of relevant real estate accounting and finance experience
• BS/BA degree required; CPA or advanced degree highly preferred
• Strong communication skills with the ability to interact well with employees at all different levels throughout the organization
• Prior management experience preferred, but not required
