Job description

Vantage has a career opportunity for a Cost Accountant at our manufacturing facility in Gurnee, Illinois. This role supports our Performance Materials Business Unit.

Our Cost Accountant is a critical member of our finance team, who contributes to the achievement of Company objectives by performing complex accounting and budgeting work, including establishing and maintaining organizational accounting principles, practices and procedures; and preparing and directing the implementation of cost accounting methods and activities, reporting to the Performance Materials Business Unit Controller.


Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the preparation and evaluation of budgets, forecasts and other financial operating reports; presents findings and recommends actions to management
  • Analyzes and reports on trends, including actual vs budget, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses
  • Performs detailed analysis on inventory costs to assist in the development of standard costs and understanding of inventory variances (e.g. purchase price variance (PPV), material usage variance (MUV))
  • Establishes procedures and formulates guidelines for conducting inventory cycle counts as needed
  • Reconciles and balances general ledger accounts, then researches and corrects any discrepancies
  • Interacts with cross-functional teams including plant operations, procurement and commercial groups
  • Recommends policies and actions to provide better financial management and greater efficiencies
  • Performs inter-company transactions and analysis
  • Collaborates with support functions and customers on pricing standards and settlement processes
  • Partners closely with the Business Unit Controller to monitor key financial performance indicators and makes recommendations to improve performance
  • Answers financial and accounting questions by researching, analyzing and interpreting data


Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Accounting from an accredited university required
  • Knowledge of accounting procedures and practices, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Must have working knowledge of inventory cost accounting principles, including experience with standard costing and variance reporting (PPV and MUV)
  • Familiarity with a variety of accounting principles, concepts, practices, procedures and GAAP requirements
  • Experience in preparing and interpreting financial statements and reports
